Who emulated Scott Pilgrim?
Him being awful is a pretty explicit part of the text.

That’s my point and my refute to the song posted in there. Everything in Scott Pilgrim was definitely around before it was released, so I don’t see why that is part of the reason our culture is a dumpster fire right now, especially when most of the characters are just bad people.

Yeah sorry OP. You're pretty much along on this island. Saw it a month ago for the first time in a while, was still great.

It was not a good movie to begin with. Very few Edgar Wright film are worth watching. But you can't get that fact into his fan boy's reality.

Never got why people pumped up Baby Driver so much. Saw it once and thought it was a waste of time.
Never have seen Scott Pilgrim vs The World to judge it. Might watch soon.

This thread made me watch this movie again:
“I sort of feel like I’m on drugs when I’m with you... not that I do drugs- unless you do drugs, in which case I do drugs all the time! All of them!”

the references and overall vibe are stuck inexorably in 2010.
You can say this about any movie. The jokes and vibe are usually stuck in the time period it came out. Guessing you hate all the eighties movies cause you don't get the jokes since they weren't written for people of 2021.

That's kind of the point though. Scott is a douchebag dating a high schooler and then just cruelly drags her along. The movie does not ignore that he is indeed a piece of shite.
Okay, I focused on non-story elements in the OP but this reflects on the writing overall.
The movie is very aware that Scott is an immature douchebag with a penchant for breaking hearts and that he and everyone around him knows that his fake relationship with Knives is purely about his inability to accept Natalie breaking up with him. This isn't subtextual - it is explicit throughout the entire movie.
So what possible reason could Edgar Wright have had for ending the movie with Scott and Knives getting back together? Nothing about his attraction to Knives was romantic at any point. It took last second reshoots to change the ending and it shows badly.
I also think time constraints really hurt the development of Scott and Ramona's relationship and made the fights feel like a chore.
In a perfect world, this is 2 movies: Scott Pilgrim vs The World with fights against Matthew Patel, Lucas Lee, and Roxie Richter (moved from #4 to #3) that ends with Natalie calling to say she's back in Toronto and then Scott Pilgrim vs The Universe with fights against Todd (moved from #3 to #4), the Katayanagi twins, and Gideon.
That puts more space between the big fight sequences and allows for the needed development of things like Scott getting a job, moving in with Ramona, and taking a wilderness sabbatical to Ontario.

Exactly. Timeless isn’t always good. That usually means a little blandness. It’s fun to take yourself back to a time when things were a little different.

Nah, it’s good as it is.

Naw it's still fun and a good Scott Pilgrim Abridged.
