Their ROI with respect to keeping narratives going made it even more valuable than ad revenue & ratings.

That the powers that be see this particularly flailing gasp as a losing proposition at long last is a bit of a watershed moment with respect to the sea change we're witnessing.

A win's a win. That's one less unhinged loon mouth screaming into the void

They had some decent stupid comedy original shows a few years ago.

Wrecked
The Detour
People of Earth

Only current TBS show that I've watched is Miracle Workers.

You know it's bad when they cancel a show "that tackled political issues that are often polarizing" right before mid-terms

The late-night shows on the major networks are nothing but shitlib therapy anyway, so Samantha doesn't fill a niche anymore.

good. Shes the most unfunny count thats ever been allowed to have a show. Hope she goes back to Canada, gets something terminal and dies a slow miserable death with Canadian healthcare.

That is shocking, who the hell watched this show?

I have friends who are pretty liberal and even they can't stand her.

Even I, a libtard, stopped watching her show a long time ago. And I don't even watch Trevor Noah either.

The John Stewart/Stephen Colbert days of comedy central set a standard that none of them can come close to duplicating.

I'd argue that no one is even trying to meet that standard, Colbert included. What they do can hardly be called comedy.

Like Rob Schneider once said about today's late night shows, people aren't really laughing at it as much as cheering on the rhetoric.

There will never be another John Stewart. He was super liberal but he would call out both sides at-least for their stupidity and he was actually funny.

Bingo, Ratings aren’t what decides a shows viability anymore, money does. If you don’t lose advertising a failing show, which becomes cheaper, can make the network more money than a growing show in certain time slots. Samantha Bee’s show is a perfect example of that.

Her show also helps check a diversity/gender check box that the overall parent company can use to talk about their show portfolio

it was a pity show in a pity time slot that threw red meat a certain audience, and it still couldn’t drive any significant ratings

The larger question is when is the last time TBS had good original content besides Conan?

Miracle Workers has been entertaining.

I don't think I've found anything she did funny after she left The Daily Show, which kind of shows that it was the writers there, not Bee, that were legitimately funny.

Especially with these progressive political shows. They are cheap to produce and ads will come no matter what.

Literally any political show. All you need is a person with a mic in front of a green screen; it's slightly more complex than a podcast these days.

And while I'm not saying "all political shows are crap" or "all podcasts are cheap", I am saying that it's much easier to keep making them because they are cheap.

That being said, unless advertisers are willing to spend money on the show, eventually it will fade because those networks still want to make money. It just takes longer for them to reach "not enough revenue" threshold than, say, a sitcom.
