why, romeo and juliet was written in 1597 nearly 400 years after olde english was spoken, i could see doing it in italian but why olde english?

Though Romeo and Juliet’s speech soundeth ancient to our ears, Shakespeare penned the play in Early Modern English, the tongue of his own day, long after Old and Middle English had passed.
