Burt Young (best known for playing Paulie in the Rocky series) passed away today at 83.

He put one of his kids through college and he put the other one through a wall.

Surprised he was only 83. He looked mid 50s in rocky.

He was 23 when he acted in Rocky.

And he looked 2-3 times that old.

My favorite movie he is in is The Killer Elite with James Caan and Robert Duvall.
A Peckinpah classic!

Just a jealous, lazy bum.

Thought he was on the verge of death in real life after watching him as Bobby Bacala Sr.

He always kind of played "older". He was only mid-30s during the original Rocky, but seemed washed up and middle-aged already.
Always brought that balance of strong (or gruff) and soft (or weak) to any role that really demonstrates that, while his range was relatively narrow, he could nail that sort of part.
Enjoyed his work, particularly in Back to School and The Sopranos.

Burt Young was literality the only thing that stayed true about the Rocky movies as they became cartoons.
I think Rocky '76 is one of the best movies of the 70s and an all time classic, and he's so good in it. But after Rocky 2, everyone else morphs into ridiculous caricatures...except Paulie. Kind of awesome, really.
Just to prevent complaints, I love Rocky 3 & 4 for what they were, but they were completely different movies and characters to 1 and even 2.

Of course he's most well known as Paulie, but to me he'll always be Lou
