Rian Johnson to Create New Star Wars Trilogy
quote:
For director Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was just the beginning of his journey in a galaxy far, far away. Lucasfilm is excited to announce that Johnson will create a brand-new Star Wars trilogy, the first of which he is also set to write and direct, with longtime collaborator Ram Bergman onboard to produce. As writer-director of The Last Jedi, Johnson conceived and realized a powerful film of which Lucasfilm and Disney are immensely proud. In shepherding this new trilogy, which is separate from the episodic Skywalker saga, Johnson will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored. “We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.” “We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on The Last Jedi,” Johnson and Bergman said in a joint statement. “Star Wars is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it. We can’t wait to continue with this new series of films.” Johnson’s upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives in U.S. theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.

Let me guess, a poor, non white, country girl gets caught up in some sort of large war and discovers her hidden powers that some wise old person has to train her to use. She meets a ragtag group of friends that all come together to stop this powerful threat.

Woah.
More than anything, at the moment, this just makes me more excited for The Last Jedi. This shows tremendous confidence in the quality of that film.

This is even better than bringing him back for Episode 9 like I wanted.

If you haven't noticed, Disney Wars is all in on diversity. Don't expect that to change with the new trilogy.

Yeah, heaven forbid there be colored people and women in a galaxy far far away.

Awesome news and this says a lot about how Disney feels about TLJ. Incredible news.

Marvel has been mostly apolitical. Star Wars seems more concerned with pushing gender and racial identity politics than telling a good story.

Like everyone else has noted, this makes me even more pumped for The Last Jedi.
It will be interesting to see what Johnson does with his trilogy and I am always down for more quality Star Wars movies.

I have noticed. It just doesn't bother me or change my life or my self-worth that different types of people are being given a chance to be seen and appreciated in a mass format in a different light. It only bothers me when it doesn't ring true to the character, previously accepted story, or the film being presented.

I usually hate calling things racist or sexist because those terms have been watered down, but this is one of the most racist/sexist things I've heard.
In a fictional universe with billions of different aliens and people shooting lightning out of their fingertips, you think black people and women appearing is odd?
