Bad Luck and Trouble.

Without giving away too much... the tight knit group he worked with years ago while he was a MP are all in trouble

Reacher is a better Batman than the actual Batman movies. There I said it.

I hope they make a dozen seasons of this. It’s absolutely fantastic.

i love how the creator explained Reacher.. something to the effect of, You know all those people that were great with that 1 weakness... Reacher has no weaknesses.

IMO, Reacher on TV is better than reading a Reacher book. I just read Never go back. Great book but seeing Reacher on TV is better . You see his body and his facial expressions on TV so it’s more entertaining.

It’s the chief criticism of Childs writing. Reacher is perfect and never makes mistakes. And if he does, he uses his endless set of skill to get out of them.

It’s the same criticism that Jack Ryan gets in the Clancy novels. He’s too much of a boy-scout. Too perfect

Now, I think it works better for Ryan than Reacher. Ryans backstory is better fleshed out than Reachers. Ryan was a Marine, and recovered from a pretty serious helicopter crash. He’s a phd and independently wealthy by his own hand through his mastery of finance. It’s also what makes him a great analyst for the CIA. Clancy does a good job of making Jack a man of action rather than an action hero. He has Clark and Chavez for that.

Child uses his stories to basically build Reachers toolbox. Sniper shoots up a town? Reacher was a champion distance shooter. Unsolvable crime? Reacher was an expert forensic investigator. Need battlefield surgery? Reacher stayed in a holiday inn express last night.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve read every one of Clancys books and I’ve read most of Childs books. The casting in Reacher is perfect. I think Krasinski could’ve been a great Ryan. I don’t know why they didn’t just adapt the already deep and established back log of Ryan-verse stories.

Right

Reacher is invincible

It’s why I enjoy the Jack carr novels with James Reece.. at least he’ll be shot or stabbed or injured

Reacher is basically
Indestructible in the novels

Reacher was shot in Tripwire (spoiler?) but the bullet was safely blocked by his pectoral muscle built up by digging swimming pools.

I love the inevitable baws that come here to post about how the novels are below the level of sophistication their palate requires. We get how smart you are. This is about a tv show though. Nobody is comparing this to your smart person literature Just shhh enjoy it

I’ll read a Reacher, Scott Haverth, or Mitch Rapp book between Devil in the White City, Empire of the Summer Moon, or Killers of the Flower Moon.

It’s ok to turn your brain off and enjoy an action book.

They're great reads while traveling on business. I always grab a book from the airport bookshop and it's usually finished by the time I return. Used to give them to my dad before he passed.

Reacher was the first Prime Video title to hit No. 1 on Nielsen’s SVOD rankings. In its first 24 hours of release, the show became one of Prime Video’s most-binged Original series ever, as well as in its top five most-watched series in the U.S. and globally. The series also just scored an early season three renewal ahead of its season two debut on Dec. 15.

I just recently watched season one and have to say the guy they have portraying Reacher is much better than 5'6" Cruise when the character is supposed to be an unstoppable force.

And I haven't even read the books.

They have the material for it. There are 26 books currently out. I’m ready for season 2. The first season was very close to the book source. A few things they added from other books but still tied in nicely.
