Yea good questions here. I'm baffled. Maybe he was somehow involved with the general and helping him from the states and the files linked him to the general?

I havent watched episode 4.
But these people obviously have made a death pact.
This is the SOP when identified.
The interesting story line (I hope) is why a death pact. You dont read about or see human self destruct buttons these days. I am imagining the head of this is named Doofenschmirtz.

Yeah, my guess is that they are either Putra's wife and daughter or something like that, and they are out for revenge since the congressman said that when the U.S. found out that he used what they taught him against his people, the U.S. sent people to deal with him (forgot how they phrased it exactly, but that is the gist). So I'm guessing that the drive that Anna got has the names of the people involved with dealing with Putra.
But with that said, that is still just a guess on my part. One thing this season has done well imo is that they are keeping you guessing on what actually is going on. I still am not sure how the Reds (or whatever it is Reacher calls them) play into this unless they are just hired mercenaries that were hired by an Indonesian faction that opposed Putra's government. And I'm still not sure how the congressman's chief of staff fits into it all to the level of having to kill himself when he was confronted.

2 made me start to lose interest, and I really disliked the dividing up of the stolen money with the whole ‘wow Thanks Reacher’ like he gave them his own money.
Reading about 3 didnt draw me back in from 2 or from the actor acting like a douche bag, but reading a little about season 4 has kind of made me interested again and also helped overcome the actor acting like a douche bag once again.

Just finished episode 5.
Evidently the sidekick cop has a steel back that isn't firm enough to break glass from 50 foot fall ... but allows her to run a marathon, post drop.
It's still a fun watch but Temu Northern Exposure, Mayberry cop and the overall writing is dogshit.
Best part of episode was when I was hoping Mayberry police chief might call in Rayland Givens (wink ... and Noah Hawley to write the next season)

I don’t know, man. The writers’ ability to keep going back to the well to find ways for this CIA bozo to menacingly fail to stop Reacher and then inadvertently help him escape is pretty great writing…

The books are pretty much read & forget and it's been a long time since I read any of them, but the Scooby-gang isn't typically how Reacher does things. I think it was exaggerated in Season 2 (I know Neagley was) but I don't remember all the sidekick action in the book version of this story.

This season has been good but episode 5 was pretty rough. Some parts were just way too far out there. The bit with the CIA guy failing so miserably was the one bright spot. But even that was made possible by the jail bars being ridiculously spaced. When I saw the bars it was throwing me off how far they were apart. I’ll stick it out in hopes they get back on track next episode.

Same, favorite season since 1 until Ep5. WTF was that, did it have a different writer or something? Every scene was dumb.

Disappointed in episode 5 too. Everyone was running from or escaping police custody the whole episode. All the cops in this episode were cartoonish in their abilities.
The whole chase and bridge scene was atrocious. You’re telling me those Indonesian women never scored a hit with all the rounds they shot.
Hoping it picks back up in episode 6

And those were rifle rounds, not handgun. They're going through most parts of a car. They also made the chicks looked pissed off once it was revealed they were the baddies. "Ok, you're bad now, so scowl a lot."
