If Indiana Jones hadn't spoken to Abner Ravenwood in years, how did he even know where he was? Answer: his area of research was common knowledge among the academic community.

Nazis would have contacted all known associates.

Alison Doody still fine AF at 52. But then again, she’s an Irish model.

I’d have fallen for her con just as easily.

Raiders is my pick for the best movie ever.

Last Crusade is a very good movie. It doesn't have as good action scenes as Raiders, though. Raiders has such iconic scenes like the ball and shooting the swordsman. Last Crusade is good, but not on that same level.

Also, Raiders basically created its own path. Last Crusade had a readymade cast and plugged Connery in. Connery was great, and the father/son dynamic is one of the best parts of Last Crusade. Raiders built the character from scratch.

Raiders just has everything you can ask for in a movie...

A great villain
Explosions
Nazis
Comedy
Romance
Suspense
Ford at the peak of his career
Great action sequences, including two of tGOAT in the temple and the truck chase
Religious/Occult themes
Even a little horror at times

It’s just about the perfect movie IMO

Ford had basically just started his career.

He had a cameo in American Graffiti and then did Star Wars and Empire and then Raiders.

It was still only 1981.

He hadn't done Blade Runner yet, Witness, the Tom Clancey movies, The Fugitive. etc.

American Graffiti came out in 1973 Star Wars and Empire were 2 of the biggest grossing movies of all time

Raiders has a pretty pointless plot that would of ended better if Indy hadn’t even gotten involved.

In reality, they're all great movies. So you can't go wrong.

Agree. My preference is Lost Ark though. A personal one. Great adventure story. Some of the filmmaking is quietly brilliant. The line on the map showing the Pan Am Clipper route. The shooting in the bar where the big guy shot only shows his shadow reaction to the round. In answer to "how did the Germans get a model of the staff's cap"? The scene cuts to the Gestapo guy heil Hitlering and showing the emblem's outline burned into his palm. Great stuff.

The OSS go see Indy and Marcus because they intercepted a Nazi telegram that mentions Abner Ravenwood and they think he had the Staff of Ra, which Marion did.

The Last Crusade was a perfect culmination of the series and did a great job of weaving in humor and in winking to the audience.

Raiders set the genre though and was just perfect.

Raiders is the GOAT for me.

I know there are better actors, but Harrison Ford's run from the late 70's to mid 90's is my favorite ever.

2 all time iconic characters in Han Solo and Indiana Jones. A ton of other good roles and movies layered in.

Raiders! Nobody did it better. But Last Crusade is a great runner up, thanks to Sean and Ford.

I'm just saying he had really just started.

Ford said after he did Star Wars..."great, the movies a hit, now I can go act."

I can start my career.

And he also didn't want to be in Return.

Lucas hired him for Star Wars because he had a bit part in his American Graffiti...and Ford read lines to prospective Solos until Lucas realized, he'd just give it to Ford.

If Raiders is Ford's peak, then he peaked as soon as he started.

1977-1981 is the first 1/5 of his movie career as we know it.

I think you have Marion confused with Willie from Temple of Doom. She might be the most annoying character I've ever seen.

Temple of Doom has other flaws, but I'd rate it third among the original 3 Indy films based on her alone.

It was so well known that the OSS(CIA) is just learning specifics about it from Indy?

It is possible they find Marion. But they didn’t know where she was. They only had a general idea of Asia. Indy knew. He’d been in that bar before. She’s says that she wondered when he’d walk in her door again. They followed him there because they didn’t know exactly where she was in Asia. Indy knew. Probably the only person in the world who did.

JRD as Sallah is very underrated work.

Like Witness.

Great movie and a great acting job by him.

We all love Han Solo but he's way better in Raiders...he was just young and green in Star Wars...Lucas deliberately wanted to hire no names for the movie.

I just think peak means fame...can you sign up and carry a movie...and he couldn't carry a movie from Star Wars or Empire...the movies were the thing, not necessarily the actors.

Indiana solidified that he was a movie star...and after that could take any script and the studio would expect it to be a hit just because he was on the marquee.
