Raiders of the Lost Ark vs. Last Crusade

This is one of those series where I’m torn as to what my favorite film is. I think Temple of Doom is great and I like it a lot, it’s just competing with two better films in the trilogy.
Between Raiders and Last Crusade, Raiders has the best intro sequence and arguably one of the best character reveals ever when Indy whips the pistol out the guy’s hand and walks out from the shadows. I like it a lot more than the Coronado intro with teenage Indy in Last Crusade.
But Last Crusade has Sean Connery in one of his best performances. The chemistry between him and Ford is amazing.
Donovan’s death sequence in Last Crusade is awesome, but the deaths of Belloq and the Nazis is one of the best death sequences in an action film ever, especially with the exploding head.
Both have plot devices that I love a lot and very satisfying endings. Raiders does have more mystery because the Ark is not as well known and defined as the Holy Grail. But Elsa is infinitely more interesting than Marion, who is annoying af.
I kind of lean towards Last Crusade as my favorite if I’m forced to pick one, with Connery and the Grail plot carrying it over the edge, but Raiders is still a fricking amazing film.

Last Crusade is just so good. I think it's the best adventure film of all time.

This is a fair argument. The Last Crusade is a better movie, but Raiders of the Lost Ark is the original. People feel the same way about The Empire Strikes Back vs A New Hope and The Two Towers vs The Fellowship of the Ring.
In reality, they're all great movies. So you can't go wrong.

Raiders is clearly ahead of last crusade IMO.
Crusade is great tho.

While I am not torn, I get it. Last Crusade is a great film. Of the two, though, Raiders stands out from start to finish, top to bottom. About the only thing Last Crusade might have a little edge is Connery. But, I think the blonde drags it down some. Quite the looker compared to Karen Allen, but Allen a better actress, IMHO.
I don't think either romance story is particularly outstanding, but the one in Raiders feels less forced.
Temple of Doom gets a lot of unfair criticism, IMHO. While I don't think it compares to the other 2 films in the series, it's fun and should get more love from Indy fans.

The Last Crusade has a Nazi rally. Case closed.

Last Crusade is the more fun re-watch but Raiders is the better film IMO.

Raiders is an iconic action movie. Nails every aspect of an intense but fun adventure movie. Last crusade is more fun to re-watch I think and as it’s been said, Connery and Ford together on screen is so much fun to watch

Same
Although I did lol when crusade was on the other night and it was the scene where they were tied to chairs and the trap door opened and exposed them to the nazis. Everyone pulls out their gun and shoots and them and misses. They are like 5 feet away. Lol
Just made me giggle
It also bugs me when he turns the boat on and sets it loose and then decides to jump out of the barn on the motorcycles before the Nazis get on the boat.

This. Plus if you have a good relationship with your father, there's some "field of dreams" moments in there too.

Yep, I rather rewatch Crusade over Raiders. Plus Raiders has a pretty pointless plot that would of ended better if Indy hadn’t even gotten involved.

Raiders is superior on a couple of levels. It had more atmosphere and eeriness. Old Testament seriousness, mixed with the right amount of comedy. Great casting all around.
Last Crusade was great but relied almost solely on Ford and Connery’s chemistry and comedic timing. Which they pulled off beautifully.

Why do y’all act like Indiana Jones only has three movies

Last Crusade is fricking excellent, but I still Raiders was better.

Agreed. One of my favorite moments in the trilogy in Temple of Doom’s intro sequence, especially when Indy says “Nice try, Lao Che!” and then closes the door and it says Lao Che Flights lmfao

Last Crusade is the more polished film and learning the backstory of our favorite adventurer is fun...
Ergo the rewatch factor.
But it's a little too polished and light-hearted and gimmicky.
Raiders is more gritty and feels more real and intense while not being kitschy while Last Crusade is more National Treasure.
