1.) My grandmother got me in to see Scarface in 1983. I was 15 (a young 15). I couldn’t get in because I wasn’t 17, and she bought the ticket not knowing anything about the movie ( she didn’t watch it with me-I went in by myself). Although it didn’t, um, “scar” me, it sure was overwhelming. Especially the chainsaw scene.
2.) I was 19 or 20 and took my 13ish year old female cousin, who was visiting from out of town, to see Less Than Zero. Never read the book. Previews made it look like a bunch of young, hip, good looking kids (my age) just making their way through life in Hollywood. Killer soundtrack. Andrew McCarthy, Jami Gertz, Robert Downey, James Spader. What could go wrong, right?Never in my wildest dreams did I expect the scene where RDJ is blowing some dude at a party. Needless to say, we didn’t talk much on the way back home. I think I was as traumatized as she was. LOL.

Mom and Dad took my brother and I to see Apocalypse Now and Deer Hunter when we were 11 &12. Odd choices for kids to see.

My Mom was one of our den mothers in Cub Scouts.
The opening credits were over a kid running playfully in a cemetery, then one of the first scenes was a topless woman facing away from the camera pulling up her bra.

My father took me to see The Godfather when I was 11. He wanted me to see that there were real criminals in this world, in a more realistic setting than what we were seeing on TV on The FBI.
This was a 180 from his usual policy. A couple of years prior he’d pulled our family out of a theater because an actress's nipples weren’t totally concealed by her sheer negligee. Now I was staring at Apollonia’s breasts with his permission.

When I was very young, there was a drive-in movie in Metairie or maybe Kenner and I remember my mom took us to pick up my dad at the airport. Some nude chick was on the screen which was clearly visible from the road.
Westgate Drive-In, north side of Veterans between David Drive and Roosevelt.

You could clearly see everything on either screen (in the later years, there were two) while driving down either Veterans OR I-10.

My mother took my sister and me to see European Vacation. I was about 11. We walked out during the topless dance scene.

Dropped off for a double feature of Death Wish and Serpico with my younger brother and two cousins. I think I was 9.

My mom rented Deliverance for me when I was like 12 years old. That was pretty traumatic.

My dad took me to see Das Boot and The Seventh Seal before I was 8. Not sure why. Lawrence of Arabia at 10 was a different kind of confusion. We watched Battleship Potemkin and Metropolis at home when I was under nine. Metropolis was creepy as hell at that age.

I remember watching Platoon in the theater with my parents. It won best picture in 87 when I was in kindergarten. Needless to say based on my username, it had a lasting effect, lol.

The violent demise of a massive ocean liner and hundreds of people screaming and dying and falling and freezing in total agony for a solid 20 minutes... no big deal. An officer shooting two passengers before putting a bullet in his own head... eh, so what.

I'm in my 60's so many of you might not know about these movies. When I was 5 or 6 my sister (she's 5 years older) took me to see "House of Wax" the Vincent Price version. She was supposed to take both of us to a Disney movie. That movie scared the shite out of me!
When I was 6 or 7 my mom and I went to see "Paint your Wagon" which had a boob flash in a scene (woman is breastfeeding). My mom who was a huge prude was starting to make us leave the theater, but started laughing so hard we watched the whole movie. Still one of my favorites, probably because of this.
