It was the one sequel to the original “Fletch.” It’s literally the first time of me watching these 2 films in the past 2 days, but I have a question I couldnt find online...

Are they making fun of Jimmy Lee Swagart in this movie by the Jimmy Lee Farnsworth? I assume it is and I know its probably a dumb question since this movie is based in Louisiana in the late 80’s, but Id like confirmation to ease my pain...

It's an amalgamation parody of Swaggert and Jim and Tammy Baker...basically any popular Southern preacher from the 80s on big time TV.

I just find it funny his name is Jimmy Lee, just with a different last name.

I took it as a general parody of tv preachers in general.

Boy, I always thought that movie was funny as hell.

“What’s your address, sir?”
“7.”

“Bend over.”
“Hi, Ben. Victor Hugo.”

“We’re the Nazis of Natchez!”

“Bobby Lee. Bobby E. Lee. Bobby E. Lee....Schwartz.”

And a ton of others.

The original Fletch is one of my all-time favorite movies. That movie is funny up to the very last line spoken just before the credits role.

Yeah, as previous posters said, mostly Jimmy Swaggart and to some degree ALL those televangelists back then.

Hard to believe he was played by the famous drill sergeant, R. Lee Ermey.

"Fletch Lives" was a fun little flick, but quite few steps down from the original "Fletch":

"Well, I know that, and you know that, but somebody's buckin' for a promotion... probably that pederast, Hanrahan.."

"Can I get you anything to drink, Dr?" "A cup of hot fat... and bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia..."

"Muchos Gracias" "Tierra Del Fuego"

I still to this day, when I get frustrated trying to explain something to a group, will toss out:

"Come On Guys! It's all Ball Bearings nowadays."

Leap of Faith with Steve Martin and Debra Winger is also pretty damn good satirizing the preacher craze of the 80's.

The scene when he takes the car with the kid in it for the California Emissions test is one of my all time favorites in any movie.

We use to love this line when meeting strangers.

Madeline: I'm sorry, who are you again?

Fletch: I'm Frieda's boss.

Madeline: Who's Frieda?

Fletch: My secretary.

I like the scene in Fletch Lives when he is the Pest Control Guy and encounters the security guard..."they reproduce by masturbation."

Also, when Fletch infiltrates the Klan Rally.
