Cannot wait to watch again to pay more attention to the background details such as the score, the props, etc. typically first watch is the dialogue and plot. Especially after watching this

My dad is getting up there in age and it's pretty hilarious listening to him talk about movies in itself. After we got out the first thing he said was "I can't believe that was based on a true story"
This is amazing. Just curious, is your dad 80-90 years old? I'm just wondering about how my parents could possibly act in a few years.

I haven’t read the book but really enjoyed the movie tonight!
Two questions:
1: How did Rocky know what Grace was saying? I understood how Grace used Rocky’s sounds to match the words but how did it work the other way around?
2: How did Rocky come back to life after being exposed to the spaceship atmosphere?

In the book they give a better description of how they start establishing words. They start with names, go through numbers, and expand it from there. Plus, Rocky’s memory is significantly better than Grace’s. Eridians basically have photographic memory as a base trait.

In the book, Grace carries (with a lot of pain and physical distress to himself) Rocky back to his environment and seals him in to let him heal. Rocky is never dead at any point, just extremely wounded and sick.

Didn’t read the book either. Other than Rocky being an instant and perfect mimic the movie didn’t really explain specifically other than after a long time spent together he began to understand the words. As far as surviving the atmosphere he just wasn’t exposed long enough to kill him is what it seemed like. Rocky was a tough cookie and got back into his bubble fast enough to survive.

Yeah, the whole language thing took a while to work out in the book and it made a good bit of sense. It would be impossible to really explain it well in a movie.

I was shocked at how empty our local theater was. I’m hoping it develops some legs because it needs to be seen on the big screen.

Loved the movie and the set quality and the scene over Adrian was better than I had hoped.
I read the book but I didn't recall Grace going over to check out Rocky's ship. Does anybody know if that happened in the book also?

No, he didn’t visit Rocky’s ship in the book, and there was also no bit about Earth in the future. In the book the Beatles head off and that’s it.
I also don’t remember there being an option for Grace to return to earth in the book.

There is. He’s very nervous to though. It’s a long lonely trip.

The last chapter of the book begins with Rocky telling Grace they see that Earth’s sun has returned to normal and Grace is extremely happy

Also in the book it’s been many years on Erid. So he doesn’t really know if he could make it. We didn’t really get any of that information from the movie. Him going on the ship was awesome.

Also, there is the fact that that the Erid’s gravity is extremely hard on Grace. At the end, he’s only 53 but he’s hobbling around like he’s in his 70s or 80s
