Why the hell is Flash Thompson a scrawny debate team member? I love the modern take on who can be a bully.

ETA: I think it's a horrible choice of casting, I was being sarcastic on the last part.

Zendaya was worse IMO. They could've cut her out completely & it would've only improved the movie.
Flash came off more like a self-hating closeted homosexual w/ a thing for Peter Parker than he did a bully.

Honestly, this change probably angered me the most. I was pretty ok with literally everything else.

But this one..... at least still make him a legit bully.

People are so easily triggered these days, a traditional physical bully would've been seen as gross overkill. We're lucky that Flash wasn't restricted to being an online bully, torturing by way of snide comments on Peter's social media accounts.

I feel that. But I feel like one of the big turning points that made spider-man who he was was the fact that he could always stand toe to toe mentally with people but now he can finally match them physically and Flash was always his first test in doing that and then he moved on to bigger and better things. The flash in Homecoming didn't have the physical prowess overtop of regular Peter Parker and still wasn't smarter than him either. He was only able to bully him because he was arbitrarily cool even though there's nothing in what we saw that made him seem any less nerdy than Peter. All of the cool kids were all already on the debate team with Peter and his friends. It makes no sense as to why they all wouldn't get along in the first place.

Yes, the entire point of Stan's "power & responsibility" no longer corresponds to Peter's relationship with Flash.

The rich kid who has popularity fantasies is a fun character, but it's not a replacement for Flash.

Because it was a bad movie. Or it was a bad movie because Flash Thompson was a scrawny debate team member. That among other things.

It was one of the changes that made sense.

Bullying has changed since we went to high school. Is there still the straight up physical bully? Yeah. But white kids nowadays kill themselves over Facebook harassment.

So they changed him to Flash in the movie which was kind of a dud because he wasn't even good as a rich intelligent bully. But still it was an attempt.

Also Marvel was trying to distance movie Flash from heroic Flash in the comics.

He respects spiderman as a hero even has a what would Spidey do comic set during his time in Afghanistan. Lost his legs there and was for a awhile keeping a drugged venom symbiote in line and acting as a host in Agent Venom.

What made the Sam raimi movies for me was highschool Peter was 20 minutes and done.

We won't get young adult Peter scenes like the above ever again it seems.

The diversity for the sake of diversity bothered me in the whole movie. I will be curious if MJ is going to wind up being their Mary Jane or if they will introduce another character.

Flash was just a shitty horrible character in the movie.

I didn't mind the attempt at creating a different kind of bully/rival, honestly.

The traditional "meathead" bully has been done to death.

Plus, they are young in the movie. Who's to say flash doesn't come back for his senior year after spending a summer getting jacked? Didn't we all know that kid in high school?

People are getting too hung up on the casting. It was a fun film.

I really didn't get the point of her being in the movie. Does she play a part in the MCU?

It's more shitting on the old.

It's a big push to bury MJ in so deep a hole bringing out Liz Allen is like a new character.

frick Quesada, the fat frick started this. frick One More Day, Brand New Day, One Moment In Time. Stop teasing us with Renew Your Vows Marvel, just admit you fricked up by having a flagship character sell part of his and his wife's soul to a devil and make right.

I enjoyed the movie well enough, but the Flash character was indeed one of my least favorite aspects of the movie though. The rest of the casting of the main characters was great though.

I'll admit I'm biased though. Spiderman and Spiderman 2 remain the best versions in my mind.

This is my feeling. Why rehash the same exact high school storyline that was covered in the other movies? Spider-Man doesn’t need Flash. He was never an interesting character and we can have Spider-Man without the usual Flash storyline.

Peter Parker, School Shooter needs to be examined more if they do another origin movie.

Have you been to NYC? If anything the diversity in the cast made it far more realistic.
