Question: did you read the Martian before seeing it? I'm not trolling, I haven't seen the movie yet. But I read the book in about a day and a half. I couldn't put it down. Several friends that saw it said it was a little disappointing.

Reading the book beforehand will definitely hurt the experience of watching it. I don't read many books, but can honestly say that there is SO MUCH that happens in the book that is great, and the movie basically skims over all of it. I guess the best way to put it is that some of the stuff that makes the book so great (the scientific detail explained in an accessible manner, the mishaps and how they're dealt with, etc.) just aren't there as much in the movie. And those things in the book are what make us love Watney as a character so much. So that wasn't really there either (at least for me).

Jurassic World by default, I guess. This year I think I've only seen like 6 movies:

1. Jurassic World
2. Ex Machina (and I really didn't even like it that much)
3. Get Hard
4. Avengers: AoU
5. Ant Man
6. The Wedding Ringer

Just personal for me

1) The Force awakens
2) Ex Machina
3) Ant-man
4) Inside-out
5) Creed
6) The Maritan
7) What we do in the Shadows
8) Striaght outta Compton
9) Jurassic World
10) Furious 7

Mad max with the honorable mention didn't live up to the hype for me

Haven't seen: Big short, Revenant, Bridge of Spies, Sicario, MI-5, Dope

Also, I really don't know how anyone could not enjoy Ex Machina. What a great movie.

I'm sure I'll regret this, but I watched this movie last night and I just don't understand what all the fascination with it is. You know pretty much after Session 2 in the movie how it's going to end. Is it just the fact it isn't a sequel or reboot, or am I missing something?

Spotlight is the best movie I've seen all year, no question. I will be seeing The Big Short, Joy and Hateful 8 and The Revenant soon and I'm confident all will be better than most on your list.

Kingsman was terrible

Can't narrow it down to 10 but I really liked these:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Inside Out
Creed
Ex Machina
Appropriate Behavior
The End of the Tour
Trainwreck
Dope
While We're Young
Ant-man
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
What We Do in the Shadows
Brooklyn

I still need to see a ton of movies though.

Kung Fury is obviously the best movie of the year.

The conversations about AI were interesting. The writing was good overall. It was a fairly intelligent sci fi movie which we don't get nearly enough of. The Martian was great but clearly geared towards a more general audience.

Seriously?
You're on a site where people have said Band of Brothers wasn't good because the characters weren't written well. Just think that one thru for a sec.
Not surprising at all the retards didn't like it.

1.) Star Wars: The Force Awakens
2.) Jurassic World

Those were the only two movies I saw this year. In fact, those were the first two movies I've seen in the theater since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Spectre was high on my list. I guess I am a little biased but it was a solid film

I'm surprised Jurassic World is getting so much love. I thought it was full of plot holes and pretty much a horrendous turd of a movie.
