Is it weird that anytime Carol yells at them they go into a world wide meltdown but when Monousos holds a knife to one of their throats it’s no big deal?

The show has like 8 episodes with really the only "exciting" moments being in the first episode and the potentially the finale. You can't have THAT much filler and build up with that little amount of episodes.
In a vacuum, I'd probably agree with you. Given VG's past work, I think we're all more than willing to give him the slack needed to tell the story he wants to...and I don't believe for a moment it'll be as simplistic as you've laid out.

I have a lot of random thoughts watching this show, that really do not need explanations or even matter.. just thoughts.
Why would it take Zosia/hive so long to read one chapter of a new book? Wouldn't there be people on the planet at the time of the shift that had the ability to basically read and memorize mass quantities of words in a very short amount of time? This exists, I just cannot recall the name of the ability.
Also, I really thought Zosia was going to be up in Carol's office not actually reading, but discovering the whiteboard she was using and question her about that.

Maybe that's why it took so long to read that chapter.

I bet it will be but the show is going to be more about the interactions and not the virus. Very similar to the walking dead.

What makes you think it took a long time? She gave her the chapter and then 10 seconds later we see Zosia walk downstairs to discuss it with her.

I don’t think every hive person on earth is constantly seeing thru every eye ball on Earth. Once she actually read the chapter then they all knew what was in it but the whole world didn’t pause to read it thru Zosia’s eyes. Would be sensory overload to constantly be seeing thru 7 billion sets of eyes.

Pretty sure I remember the shot showing Carol waiting around on the steps, and then it sort of cut to later as if she had been waiting awhile, and ultimately, she got up to start walking up the steps to check on Zosia when Zosia was finally coming out of the room, so she hurried to sit back down.

I just watched it real quick to make sure I wasn't crazy.
Carol hands her the chapter to go read. It then changes scenes to carol sitting on the staircase waiting for Zosia to finish. After about 5 seconds Carol stands up and looks up the stairway and right as she does Zosia opens the door to start walking downstairs.
There is nothing about the scene that would make one think it took an excessive amount of time for Zosia to read it. Basically she was given the chapter then Carol let her go read it by herself and waited on the stairs until she was done.

That's how I saw it.

Two things come to mind (and it could be either, both or neither):
1. They hive can go only as fast as the individual bot goes.
2. It may be that they took their time in order to savor the new story, kind of like taking your time eating a good steak (or whatever you really enjoy) instead of wolfing it all down.

They did tell Carol that they were starved for new reading material.

I wonder if the name Zosia is a play on zoysia, the spreading grass.

I don't know if it was this episode or the last when Zosia mentioned something about how the hive communicates via eletromagnetism or something. It made me think Carol (and/or Manousos) is going to get Zosia into a metal safe or some other shielded room to free her from the hive, at least temporarily.

The “starved for new reading material” is going to be important. There’s a desire to learn, meaning that they can consume new knowledge and information. I’ve wondered if Carol being a writer might become an offensive strategy for influencing the billions of hive members.
I like how Vince is letting Carol move between manipulating Zosia for information and also engaging in her own yearning for human connection. It’s well-played and subtle. Great writing as always.
I also wonder how much temptation is there for Carol. We’re seeing how far the hive can go in giving you the perfect life. Zosia no longer says “we.” She can flirt. Joke. Rebuild and replay favorite memories. She can frick.
Speaking of that - Zosia accesses not only all of Carol’s sexual partners but also millions of lesbians and sex workers. Carol had to have the best orgasm of her life, right?
I think we’re seeing an obvious set up: Manuoso is going to kill Zosia. But she’s a main actress so maybe not. At the least, we’re going to end with Carol and Manuoso at odds on how to address this hive problem.
We also really need a good cliffhanger with new information about the hive. There’s not as much suspense with their activity as the first part of the season. I can’t imagine multiple more seasons of the hive as they are now.

Does the season finale come out tonight?

I’ve somewhat kept abreast of this “marvel” of AI. I think it’s a lot of horseshite. It’s a giant plagiarism machine, in its current form. I think ChatGPT knows what it’s writing like a toaster knows that it’s making toast. There’s no intelligence — it’s a marvel of marketing. It may well become sentient and truly intelligent. Down the line there may be a moment of singularity where it actually becomes a threat, but right now it’s just a plagiarism machine. - Gilligan in Variety

Yes. They moved it up.
Get Fallout and Pluribus tonight.

to me one thing stands out, manousos has shown he’s willing to die before succumbing…carol has not. And carol is the lead character so we know she has plot armor. Manousos not so much
