Amen Watched it the other day and it is so good. Great plot, great dialogue, great actors, amazing special effects. Just an all-around entertaining movie. My favorite line:

"Fortunately, I know how to counter it; the man who did the waking buys the man who was sleeping a drink; the man who was sleeping drinks it while listening to a proposition from the man who did the waking"

At Worlds End

It wasn’t that long ago Disney had something resembling balls and creativity.

And I loved Keira Knightley.
—Her DVD commentary is precious. She was still a teen.

Honestly, that first introduction of Jack might be one of the all time great tone setters. The way he looks like he’s gallantly into port on top of some large mast only to show that hes on a sinking dingy and just makes it to the dock on time.

Agree. One of my favorite opening scenes of any movie genre I’ve ever enjoyed. Had me laughing from then till the end. Had to go see the movie again the following week.

All kinda went downhill after the first movie, however.

Keira Knightley was fire in that trilogy, especially the 3rd one with that tan

I still remember at the midnight screening of At Worlds End, when Will resurfaces as the new captain of the Dutchman at the end of it, all the girls throughout the theater let out a collective orgasm lol

Disney initially hated Depp's portrayal of Jack Sparrow.

"They just couldn't stand him," says Depp. "I think it was Michael Eisner, the head of Disney at the time, who was quoted as saying, 'He's ruining the movie.'

There are some great stories that came out of this production. As you mentioned, Depp's take on the character really pissed Disney off. Also, his initial costume and makeup choice made him unrecognizable. The final look you see in the films was a compromise.

Initially, the movie was just going to be titled Pirates of the Caribbean. It was Eisner's idea to add "Curse of the Black Pearl" to distance itself from the theme park ride and set up for potential sequels. Everyone else hated the idea.

This thread went on far too long without this. My 13 year old self had ulterior motives for watching pirates

And black sails is the best pirate series. We could use more.

I watched Black Sails about a year ago and really liked it. I actually thought about rewatching this week.

Sliced up some fresh pineapple and started rewatching Psych instead.

Agree the first one was the best, but I thought all of them were solid in there own way and told a good story. Had to look up the order of them:

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007)
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)

I catch myself watching any of them when on TV.

Great movie. I ran into dead men tell no tales on FX yesterday and despite it being below the trilogy its still a fun movie.

I'm "fine" with most of them, but I really only view Black Pearl and Dead Men tell no Tales as rewatchable.

ducks.
