The fact that the role of Peter Pan on stage has been traditionally played by a woman for the past 60 years adds another layer of hilarity to this thread.
Not really.
Very rarely do you see a pre-teen lead a Broadway stage adaptation. It makes no sense to have an adult male with a five o'clock shadow and a deep, masculine voice playing a boy. So casting directors (from the very original production and on into the present) have used an adult female for the role. Grown women typically have higher voices, are leaner, and shorter. Which are all ideal traits to have when you are trying to portray a boy on stage. Hook is supposed to tower over Peter, which can't happen when you have an adult male playing the role of a 10-year-old boy.

He's aware...he's being contrary.

Hush. He's transplaining Peter Pan to me.

you're raising your kids to care about the race of fictional characters, then you're already doing a terrible job parenting.
Which is it? Representation matters or it doesn’t?
The larger issue is that people identify by skin color or ethnicity. Yet want to adopt culture of others. Peter Pan is a very British/Anglo Saxon story. If the cast was all white people would lose their minds.
Finn Jones was cast to play a white guy and people threw a fit.

The black Ariel is more egregious than anything in that trailer. Most of the issues people have with these remakes could be solved with basic parenting.
My kids for example won’t see that movie with the gay teens because I feel it is not appropriate for a 7/5 yo kids. It is easier to complain about being “woke” than actually talk to your kids about it or take an active role in what they watch/consume.

Don't get Disney+. Problem solved.

Or I can let me kid watch the shows on D+ that aren't full of woke crap.
Actual parents are able to be involved enough to see what their kids are watching and informed enough to know what they shouldn't be.

Then why is it so important to change books and stories if you all don't care what race they are?
Because they do. They are the racist.

Tinker Bell doesn’t bother me
But they’re The Lost Boys. Jesus Christ, Disney. Get a fricking grip on this shite

It's not about race, it's about having them stay the way they've always been portrayed.
I mean it is and it isn’t. I really don’t care about them changing tinker bell or Peter but changing The Lost Boys to include girls is just fricking pandering. It would be different if it served a purpose but it doesn’t. At all.

Well it's all pandering. The difference is people will accept varying degrees of pandering. All the purpose it serves is superficial.

I used to watch a Disney trailer with some sort of excitement and now I just wonder how they’re gonna frick up another IP

I'm ok with Tinker Bell, but changing The Lost Boys feels moreso like they're changing the original story.
Additionally, goodness why does the movie look so dark. I understand it's live action but live action doesn't have to automatically mean dark and gloomy.

It's all pandering though...that's the point.

It's really quite shocking how far they've fallen, and there doesn't seem to be any desire on the part of the company to right the ship in any way.

You're an idiot if that's your take away. Nobody, I hope, raises their kids to care about race. You're completely ignoring the point that I was making. Disney is changing the race of a 70 year old character to hit a quota. Kids have been watching that movie for longer than I've been alive. If you're of the impression that kids are too stupid to see this, then I question if you've ever known any.
I'm not black, but I would assume they are wanting Disney to tell black stories. Not blackwash white characters and call it even. It's the lowest level of pandering and gross. They do it because they only see legitimacy in white characters. You know this is true because they apparently REFUSE to tell black stories.
This is what several black fans of comics/cartoons/movies in general constantly say. To give them new stories with new characters. Not changing the race of old characters. It is dumb.

I knew it would get bad when Frozen 2 added a black guy in 19th century Norway. It is getting pretty stupid.

Jude Law as Captain Hook doesn't seem right to me.
