Well I am, and I agree with this statement. I know the Princess and the Frog was based off the Grim Fairytale and the novel, but at least they changed the setting and really, the entire story. In that case, it was fitting for the Princess to be black due to the way they retold the story. The result was fantastic, and one of the last good things Disney did.

I and other black people in my circle are not even pushing for this kind of crap. This is woke white people showing off for other woke white people.

Fun fact that I just found out, the actress playing Wendy (Ever Anderson) is the daughter of Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson.

Exactly and it’s their racist thoughts of thinking they need to speak for black people and be their voice.

You guys can keep trying this, but it's not gonna work.

It's not about race, it's about having them stay the way they've always been portrayed. Whether it's costume design or color, hair color, height, weight, size, skin color...changing those things form an established character, for ACTUAL race and gender reasons, is an issue.

People bitched about Superman's lack of red outer underwear in MoS, and WB even went so far as to have Brandon Routh wear blue contacts to cover his brown eyes because Superman has blue eyes.

Making Superman black isn't about making him of African decent, it's about CHANGING SUPERMAN. Same with Tinker Bell, or Ariel, or for that matter the Ancient One from Dr. Strange, which was called Whitewashing, remember?

At least you didn't try the, "Why does it matter?!?"

If it didn't matter, they wouldn't be changing them.

Essentially it’s a metaphor for a little boy’s need for a maternal figure in youth and that changing to a need for a romantic interest when they reach puberty

So they're removing the creepy Freudian element from Barrie's original? Is important to reinforce the idea that boys need romantic partners to replace their mothers.

David Lowery directed this. He's responsible for the only Disney remake that's been worth a damn, Pete's Dragon. This trailer doesn't present anything interesting to me, but I'll probably check it out on Disney+ at some point.

About Tinker Bell being black? 100%. They do.

Really was a fantastic movie. One of our favorite Disney movies in our house. They did a great job with it and it didn't come off as pandering in any way. Pretty clear they were trying to tell a good story at that point, and not just check boxes.

I hope they don't harm that film with whatever they choose to do with Splash Mountain at the parks.

I mean...it's an essential theme of the whole story. Here you have a boy (Peter Pan) who refuses to grow up. He wants to remain a kid forever and has taught his Lost Boys to be of a like mind. However, that dynamic changes when Wendy arrives in Neverland. Peter ostensibly brings her there to give him and his boys a maternal figure, but her arrival triggers feelings within him that he never felt before. The same thing is true for the Lost Boys. The story is about confronting the aging process as well as the inevitably of death as highlighted by the ticking clock within the crocodile that Captain James Hook is so frightened of.

It’s also what makes Speilberg’s Hook so good, especially as you get older.

THIS! More princess and the frog Titianas and less remade tinkerbells.

ETA: I posted this before reading page 2. Bham Tiger nailed it. Woke white people showing off to other woke white people.

I knew before I entered this thread that one of the main characters was going to be black. Didn't even need to read this.

The fact that the role of Peter Pan on stage has been traditionally played by a woman for the past 60 years adds another layer of hilarity to this thread.

Your grandparents enjoyed that trans character and sat your parents down in front of the TV to watch an adult Mary Martin pretend to be a boy. Then Sandy Duncan took over the role and young boys wondered why seeing Peter Pan in tights gave them a funny feeling.

My advice is to have your kids watch the Goes Wrong Show version of Peter Pan.

I think it speaks volumes that they are sending this trash straight to Disney+. I really need to sell my Disney stock.

Also 26K likes to 139k dislikes on youtube for the trailer
