Wow - some of those I don’t know - but I did like Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, Doug, and Courage the Cowardly dog (although it was weird).

Good point. List is trash without DBZ.

You can go down some dark holes on theories behind Rugrats. Also it’s amazing that Ren &Stimpy were on nick that would never fly today.

Uhh, why did they skip Superman animated series. It came on directly after BAS and was nearly as good. Maybe slightly lower, but at least A tier

Hey Arnold had some really good drama and subtlety to it. I think it’s A Tier, doesn’t spoon feed kids, and gives them harsh lessons early on. Helga is one of the best animated characters of the 90s and I do think helped some kids in abusive environments cope with their bullshite

Hey Arnold stands out from the rest of 90s cartoons (especially its peers on Nick) because it wasn't totally absurdist in tone.

Ren and Stimpy's success as well as the maturation of Gen-X animators into production roles dictated a major shift in what was considered acceptable comedy.

So in a world that allows Cow & Chicken and Powerpuff Girls, a cartoon that focuses on some neighborhood kids playing stick ball really stands out. The main kids were all allowed to be 3-dimensional: the class bully can also be funny, smart, kind, vulnerable. Despite the title, very few episodes centered purely on Arnold.

Most Americans didn’t watch DBZ til the 2000s so I kind of get it being left off

Rocko was the GOAT nick toon. So many adult jokes written in. Rugrats was overrated. Doug was a pussy but it was still a good show.

In addition to the other mentioned shows not included in this list, no love for Exosquad? The character design in that show screams 1990s, and the plot was pretty good for a children's cartoon.

Also The Simpsons' prime was in the 90s, so that automatically puts them on S tier and they need to be on there.

I know most on here don't like Rugrats, or feel it's overrated, but it got huge ratings for Nick and was the flagship show until Spongebob debuted. Like Dexter and Powerpuff did for CN, it allowed many of the other cartoons on this list to be shown and successful. That alone is why it should be top tier.

That doesn’t make it a kids cartoon

People wouldn’t use this argument on why The Big Bang Theory or Avatar are one of the GOAT.

Eh, I get your point but you know animation is a different animal than traditional sitcoms or movies. Both of those were done by already wildy successful producers, while cartoons have a much shorter leash (due to toy sales) and it takes one of them being a huge success to convince studios to sign off on other projects.

I won’t argue that it’s not one of the most important animated series of all time, I just don’t think it’s aged all that well. The only character that is good in it is Angelica and the animation is quite frankly terrible.
