La La Land will more than likely run the table and break the record for most Oscar wins. It was a truly sensational movie in what was a down year for powerful "best" pictures.

Really think this will be looked at and laughed at years from now.

Look, I really liked La La Land. Gosling is possibly my biggest box office draw right now, and Stone was very good. However, this movie is succeeding more due to the surprise success given little initial hype. The fact that it could potentially win close to double-digit Oscars just shows how shitty this year was.

Silver Linings Playbook had a similar surge. It didn't do near as well at the Oscars as La La Land is predicted to do, and I think it will hold-up much better with time than La La Land will.

It will win quite a few, but it shouldn't have some dominant night. I also don't have a clue why Emma Stone will likely win an Oscar when Viola Davis absolutely should be in the leading lady category.

Silver Linings Playbook
I don't find this very rewatchable. And many agree.

La La Land has a ton going for it. First, it really is a great film, top to bottom. Second, it's got a classic hollywood feel that critics fawn over. And finally, it's about hollywood itself, and no other group is more self-congratulatory.

And this IS NOT a "down year" at all.

I think Moonlight will end up being viewed as the better film once most people have to opportunity to view both Moonlight and La La Land. I've seen neither yet, but that is just a feeling I have.

I'd disagree, but I still don't think this is the best determining factor of how good a movie is. I can rewatch The Fifth Element a thousand times and never want to see Deer Hunter, but that doesn't make Fifth Element superior.

I firmly believe Silver Linings is a better film than La La Land.

O I definitely understand why it's got so much momentum. I just think those are fairly shitty reasons.

Agree to disagree. I see alot of B+/A- movies, but I don't think I see any truly transcendent or all-time movies.

It's sorta like the cheerleader effect where the group as a whole is buoyed by the combination of the others. They all look better, because there are quite a few really solid movies, but if you looked at any of the movies individually, not many of them standout that much to me.

JMO though

La La Land will win all the awards except for a few token black winners. Its the kind of movie the academy loves. This movie was basically made to win Oscars.

love that arrival is getting love for best picture and d. Villeneuve. love that la la land getting mad respect. don't love all of the "black" reparation nominations. the only movie that deserves the love is moonlight. as well as denzel & ruth negga's performances.

fences, hacksaw ridge, hidden figures, lion for best picture...L.O.L.

Horror movies rarely get Oscar nominations. I can only remember The Sixth Sense and Silence of the Lambs getting any kind of awards and those are both only borderline horror. The Exorcist got a bunch of nominations. The Shining was nominated for two Razzies. Horror and comedy both tend to be overlooked categories.

I'm kind of shocked Sully didn't get nominated. I loved it.

I thought it was extremely overrated. Felt like watching Hanks in a lifetime type movie

Viola Davis and Mahershala Ali were just as good or better than both of them

And you just knew people were going to chime in about the "token black nominees" when pretty much all of them are worthy anyway
