This was from 1976. I was only 8, but my mom let me stay up to see the new toys Johnny was showcasing.

I ended up getting the basketball player, as well as the football kicker, that year.

Carson and McMahon were great together. Idiots on late-night now.

I find myself watching clips of old Carson episodes all the time. It was a better world back then.

He completely dominated for 30 years:

Nielsen ratings of Johnny Carson’s “The Tonight Show”:

1968-69 7.4

1971-72 7.8

1986-87 7.1

The current crop of late night hosts are a complete joke. They dont move the needle.

Colbert would wet himself if he had to play with that cannon.

After watching that, I would have been severely disappointed to get that and not the cannon

He had a policy of allowing his guest hosts to do that. He did have a special open discussion show following Bobby Kennedy's assassination.

Watched it every night on a 12" black & white TV in high school. When I was in college in the late 70's and early 80's, I talked about who was on, and what happened, at work with my boss, who was in his 70's. He never missed it.

When Letterman started coming on after it I stayed up that much later. Had to take caffeine pills to make it thru school and the job. Lucky I didn't get ulcers.

I've gone down Johnny Carson show clip rabbit hole on YouTube many times. The animals and anything with Don Rickles are the best.

Is this the genesis of the love for junk?
