Literally a game changer when it came to special effects.
The Abyss had touched on it, but the liquid metal Terminator was a massive leap forward.
Jurassic Park was the next big leap in CGI.

It's up there with Empire as far as sequels go. Fantastic movie.

I was only 11, so I don't remember too much. The hype was nuts, and not a single person was disappointed.

I was in my late 20's. What you may not be taking into consideration was the impact "The Terminator" had on movie fans. No one saw that one coming. Arnold was just a muscle guy that you expect to make bad "Hercules" types of films and he was absolutely ruthless in the Terminator. It had been about 7 years between that movie and T-2 so there was a lot of hype for this film and it delivered. It also was one of the earlier films where women started playing bad-asses in the films with Sarah Conner and Ellen Ripley as a few examples.....
The 80's was a great decade of cinema because we didn't have social media prejudging a film and most people didn't trust movie critics.

We also didn't have woke writers and directors trying to make a social statement.

It was amazing. I never saw it in theaters, but I remember being at my LL baseball teammate's house and they had it on tape, and it was on and we watched some of it and I was mesmerized at the SFX. When I finally watched it I was blown away at how awesome it was.

One of the great block buster movies in the vein of Star Wars/Empire, Raiders, etc. It was a complete movie with big stars, great plot, great villain, great special effects

T2 was a phenomenon. It was the absolute pinnacle of Arnold.
It was one of the few rated R movies I was able to rent as a young kid (probably 6 or 7) without the parents even caring. It was that big of a deal.
I remember there was even a featurette before the movie on the effects and there was also a big thing on how Arnold was the physical fitness ammbassador for George Bush when he was president. It was crazy.

T2 was a revolutionary theater experience for sure, and yeah I probably saw it three or four times.
But that summer was also the pinnacle of MTV imo. Every night their top 10 countdown alternated between You Could Be Mine, Bryan Adams’ Everything I Do, EMF’s Unbelievable, and Pop Goes the Weasel
Great times

It blew my 13 year old mind! And IMHO the effects hold up very well even today.

The summer the movie came out, you couldn't get away from this song.

Terminator Action Figures
Your parents hated you if they didn't get you the R-rated movies' merch. We had Terminator, Aliens, and RoboCop toylines that were just badass.

In addition to everything said in this thread, I also remember it being a big deal, almost a shock to watch a female heroine who looked and acted the part.
I mean Arnold was good, but Linda Hamilton's portray of Sarah Conner is still groundbreaking to this day.

I was a kid when it came out and my uncle got it on Satellite (the old school giant kind) and let me watch it. It was the first rated R movie I ever saw and I was blown away at how cool it was. I remember it seemed like all other kids had seen it too. The arcade game was pretty huge too at the time.
I've watched it several times since then throughout the years and it still holds up.

I was 9. I went to a tennis tournament with a group of people. I think it was the first time I had an ounce of freedom. There was a mall close to our hotel, and I remember going to the arcade and also seeing both T2 and Kevin Costner's Robin Hood during that week. It was an awesome week for a kid.

Furlong was annoying but other than that it was great.
He did a good job as John and Cameron wrote him well. Rebellious but you understand why. Smart that he can connect the dots so well. And you feel bad for him growing up without knowing his father, mom in an asylum. Then he connects with the terminator as a father figure only to lose him in the end. Makes you pull for him
A lot of kids written nowadays are so dumb that it ruins the movie.

I was roughly 16-years-old when "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" hit theaters. It was a happening in every sense of the word. The advertisements were everywhere; there was no escaping the hype. Add to that the kick-arse theme tune "You Could Be Mine" by Guns 'n Roses and the action-packed music video that accompanied it, and you had the perfect storm of early 90s entertainment for the masses.

And keep in mind that Cameron had recently come off of directing possibly the greatest action/horror sequel of all time with Aliens. Expectations were sky high for T2.
