I hope it’s in the same place where they currently live.

“Congrats, Debra! You’ve just won a house in beautiful San Francisco!”

“But Pat, I live in Ohio...”

It was a Margueritaville property in either Hilton Head or Daytona Beach. Wild prize.

Until they have to decline it because they can't come up with the money to pay the taxes on it in such a short about of time.

Screw that. Mortgage it to pay the tax bill, rent it out as a vacation property and profit for life.

I think in California you have to pay their taxes up front before receiving the prize.

If I remember correctly, you have to pay taxes at the closing

Like property taxes and income taxes?

I definitely agree.

Very common for house winners to sell it or take a cash option. Some try to rent it to pay off the taxes and upkeep, but a lot of times they’re in high end areas that are zoned to prevent rentals.

For $375,000, more like a studio apartment.

Had an old friend that tried to make it in LA but just ended up doing camera work. He worked on Wheel for a bit and told me every show they spent the most time trying to figure out which 3 contestants to pair together. They film the bulk of the shows in 2-3 days per week so all the contestants meet at the same time and they study them to see who works best on tv at the same time.

Said they try to hit every demo, and 95% of the time it will have an attractive female, a minority, and a dude.

Now its always the first thing i notice when i turn it on and he's still right, lol

until you read the fine print that says taxes on full value must be paid immediately on it as with all won prizes on those shows.

there are always stories of people on PIR unable to get their cars because they dont have the tax money to get them transferred so they must negotiate a lowball cash value settlement instead of getting the car.

$375,000.00 house most likely means you must write them a check today for $37,500.00 to get that house. not everyone has that much spare cash on hand in a bank account
