The average grazing ratio in Montana (using 2021 BLM standards is 1 cow per 10.48 acres)

Compared with Louisiana, for example is 1 cow per 2 acres.

If, Dutton is needing 100,000 acres, one must assume that he’s needing it to support 9,500 head of cattle.

First of all, the show has depicted approximately herds of a couple hundred at best but closer to about 100 head.

Secondly, those little catch pens and cowboys aren’t even remotely adequate to facilitate 9,500 head of cattle.

Also, you can lease pasturage in Louisiana for about $14/acre and you would only need 20,000 acres. That’s about $280,000 and that would be annually (or seasonally). But he needs like 1.5 per month?

Also let’s talk trucking with fuel prices the way it is.
Considering the shear weight of 9,500 cattle is roughly 50,000 lbs weight per truck. That would be about 190 18-wheeler loads of cattle to go say approximately 1,500 miles.
I don’t know the going trucking rate but even at $3/ mile $855,000 one way.

So that writing is absurd and that business model is ridiculous. He might as well just sell it and move to Destin.

The stupidity in just the cow logistics lost me not counting the fact that the attorney general is screwing opposing counsel to obtain an unfair legal advantage in pending litigation (which would be clear violations of the rules of professional conduct), does the attorney general forget the murder he committed? Or is he going to claim duress from Beth about the abortion?

This writing isn’t just sloppy it’s downright ridiculous. The show jumped the shark once Taylor Sheridan showed up as a horse trainer. It’s gone downhill ever since.

Oh and 1923 is a snooze fest.

Looked that way to me as well.
Legends of the Fall ripoff.
Jacob Dutton looks a bully and a selfish a-hole. Hiding behind a badge.
I liked 1883 because there were characters to pull for.
In 1923, I’d be for the Scottish sheep herders.
No thanks for this one.

The vision quest bro.

Changed him and he found his purpose.

That was deep.

Was literally asking the same thing, how is Jaime going to proceed when Beth literally has a picture of him moving a dead body?

I just have to laugh out loud as I continue to watch.

John is going to leave it to the Reservation, land developers won't be able to take it from the Indians. John is about preserving the land.

Another thing kind of in that same vein, we see how they live, what they drive, John has an in house chef but they’re broke and the ranch has no money? Really?

I could have sworn that when this series was debuting, they described John Dutton as one of the richest men in the country who also owned the largest ranch in the country. Like he was a billionaire

If it turns out Jamie isn’t playing this chick and he’s just a gullible dipshit again then they pretty much just have to kill his character off.

The say it with me “I want you to help save my land” was so awful I’m hoping it is him just setting her up…but the writing on this show is dog shite so wouldn’t be surprising if they’re just doing the same stuff again

I've been saying this for several seasons. Monica's current arc is proving that. She's grown to love the Ranch and there will be some compromise She, along with Piper will come up with some plan and save the Ranch.

I love this show, but I lol'd when the lawyer from ME handed Jamie a conservation easement that was one page and done secretly. They're hundreds of pages and public record.

Yep, Casey and Monica’s marriage has always been a foreshadowing of the outcome.

I didn’t watch, not to be sexist but matriarchal Duttons doesn’t interest me.

Everything you said is spot on. The BS with everybody leaving for a year I just don’t see it happening. Like you said too many of the personnel decisions make no sense. I think they’ll either take off to go and come right back in time for something big or something will happen to stop the trip all together. It’s like Sheridan can’t follow through on anything so he’s gonna copy the Jimmy story but with more people this time. It’s like we get these pieces put into position for an interesting conflict then he hits a mental wall and writes a dull, simple conclusion or copies something he likes from before.

I said this earlier in the thread but I am totally convinced 1923 is a copy of Legends of the Fall.

1883 gave the ending away

The Indian who gave the lane to Tim McGraw said “in seven generations we will get it back”

Tate is the 7th generation Dutton. He is Indian. They will “take it back”

I am sure that is on the will for part of the ranch.

Dude needs to seriously invest in a story board or something to keep track of his characters’ plot lines because he writes likes he has amnesia. Dude is just a horrible writer.

Watching it last night, i have finally switched from watching because I like the series to now hate watching just to see how ridiculous the show is. I now look forward to the absurdity of Sheridan’s shitty writing

I've never watched an episode of Yellowstone but binged 1883 the other day.

Considering it was made clear that only one of the immigrants spoke English in the first episode and then 3 or 4 shows in it seems everyone has become fluent, the above does not surprise me with this writer.

Debating whether to bother trying Yellowstone. The fact I pretty much despise Costner is why I haven't checked it out yet.

First 3 seasons are good, Fourth season is when the decline really starts to happen.
