I don't know why this doesn't get as much love as OGHH.

I think the HOB2 is better than HH2 or 3. Origins was solid (bad ending but great atmosphere/scenes). I haven't seen the new one.

I'm a FF guy though, admittedly.

Haunt is easily the best horror movie most people haven’t heard of. It’s in my annual rotation for the season

HH2 and 3 are REAL bad and just bad. Origins is OK.

They're trying to build a mythology and don't really have enough meat on the bones.

Some recs for interesting horror movies I've seen the past few years and didn't post about

Only watch Starve Acre one if you're REALLY into Folk Horror

*ETA: and a few I did post about

Is the Hare movie like Hokum/Oddity?

Damian is incredible at building settings/atmosphere. Just wish his movies were a little darker/sinister with a little more violence and he’d be the best horror director in the game right now imo. Hokum went further down that route than Oddity did though which I appreciated. There is some legitimately creepy shite in that one.

Haven't seen either. I have Oddity on a long-term queue and Hokum isn't on free streaming yet.

When Evil Lurks was great. Super dark and depressing, just my style.

Some of my favorite off the radar horror I've seen recently

I actually bought the Loved Ones without knowing anything about it to complete a 5/$10 on Fandango At Home.

I believe I've had Black Mountain Side on queue on Amazon for 4+ years

Watch it every season too.

Hellfest is another pretty similar to Haunt and a decent one. Kind of same not a blockbuster movie or anything, but just a decent horror flick and one that gets a good halloween feel to it since it is centered around a haunted house as well.

Same. Original was well done. I usually don't enjoy found footage that much, but both of these I enjoyed a lot.

Interesting. I figured it would be on Shudder. Hulu gets Shudder exclusives before anyone else and I thought Hokum was in that grouping.

Yeah Best I can tell, Hokum will not be streaming on Shudder, but it will be on Hulu with just a normal Hulu subscription.

Yea, it will be on Hulu with normal Hulu subscription on the 10th. I loved Hokum, but I have loved all of McCarthy's stuff. Whatever his style is, just hits me the right way for horror films. Caveat and Oddity are both excellent. Though with Caveat, definitely need to just accept the fact the character gets themself into a situation that would never happen as there are about 15 "nope" moments to set up the movie. Do that and then just enjoy the rest of the ride

Oddity is definitely one to watch with a good sound system. I think it has some of the better sfx work of a horror movie in the last few years. Really does an excellent job there. It’s not a groundbreaking movie as far as unique story or concept, just one that does everything very, very well. Keeps things simple, but very well polished.

The Conspiracy is the best FF movie of all time, from a FF lover.

I own a physical copy of it on DVD, even

*ETA: it has one of the random nobody actors who appears in multiple lesser known movies/shows I like, Aaron Poole

Steve Oram is another

He even has a part in Kill List

Tubi seems to have a better selection of horror movies than all the paid streaming apps.
