Actually, she's really hot.

3 out of the 4 sisters are. One is, well, not attractive.

She was telling me that when she went up to Matewan as a kid that her relatives (sisters and brothers of her grandmother) that stayed and lived there are quite interesting.

One of her grandmothers sisters buried her husband in the backyard. I mean, after he died, of course. At least I think...

My whole family is from WV and most still live there (Beckley, Charleston, Sissonville, St. Albans). Everyone from the state is "interesting". Thank God my parents moved me out of there when I was 3.

Definitely a different dynamic.

Damn the irony. Poppy McCoy goes from Christian man with principles to old drunken psycho who rebukes God...and Devil Anse becomes the legit "christian, peaceful man with all the principles and wisdom" after starting out as pretty much a hustler that had a blood lust.
I think you are on to somehting there. Devil knew how wrong everything he did was and reconciled it with himself, his wife and with God. Randall went to his death cursing the Hatfields and seemingly taking no responsibility.

Not taking up for him, but we don't know how accurate that part of the story is. Some facts concerning the timeline of events can be corraborated, but verbal exchanges are gonna be much more likely added "hollywood" touches for the dramatic.

And with a story as sprawling as the Hatfield-McCoy feud, Fetty said condensing was necessary to fit the story into a six-hour miniseries."
Another case in point, Cap and his hired farmhand Tom Wallace were the ones that whipped both Nancy McCoy and her sister Mary Daniels because they thought the two women were passing info about them to Randall McCoy (this may not even have been the reason though...Wallace was living with Mary Daniels daughter and had just been rejected by her...Tom and Cap may have gone to the sister's house for that reason). To avenge his sisters, Jefferson McCoy went to Cap's house and while threatening Cap's wife Tom showed up and the two exchanged gunshots, then Jeff fled. Cap filed a complaint against McCoy. With an arrest warrant in hand, he and Tom tracked down Jefferson and one of them shot him as he reached the other side of the Tug Fork. Uncle Jim Vance wasn't even involved in this incident.

Gotta say I agree with this. As little as I find worth watching on the hundreds of available channels, this was a pretty compelling story. I realize it was dressed up and romanticized but the portrayal of the brutality and emotion was well-crafted. Kudos to HC for putting this together.

Haven't finished part 3 yet (will record this Saturday), but I'm already on board. This series has been awesome so far.

Just finished part three tonight. It was a very well done miniseries. Incredibly compelling and heart-wrenching at times. I think they do a good job of straddling the fence throughout. I found myself sympathizing with both families and hating both families at different points throughout the story.

Sure I watched all three episodes and found them entertaining. Much like the obverse of a Dan Brown novel the series was bullshite based on history. The series did pique my interest and I plan to read a book or two to learn something about the true story behind the feud.

My wife for some reason is sympathetic to Randall McCoy. I'm like frick him. Yeah, he lost a lot of his family. Frankly, everything after he sent those hired thugs out he brings on himself. I hate that his kids got killed when they burned down his house but IDGAF about his pain and anguish. He was awfully stupid to think that there would be no retribution for rounding up and killing Hatfields. And by the way, your sons were murderers. Good job raising them to hate Hatfields so much.

And frankly his constant preaching and praying to God is annoying. He really thinks in his fricked up inbred brain that he is just the poor victim of the ruthless Hatfields.

And I'm sure Devil Anse is not as much of a reluctant patriarch drug into the fight by unavoidable curcumstances as the show portrayed him. I don't really sympathize with him either. It does show something that the shite really got real when his brother was murdered and his side was the ones who finally said, we are done.
I guess I am with your wife on this. frick every Hatfield. I wanted all of them to die slow painful deaths except dumbass Johnse. The McCoys were just stupid. Hatfields? Pure evil. Evil hypocrites. Take the law in their own hands when it suits them, then rely upon it the other way when it doesn't. I actually got mad

Although I respect the Hatfields more for handling their business, from the perspective of right and wrong, I agree totally.

Yeah, that's where it was easy for me to pick a side.

One other comment. I don't know if it was poor casting or if it was done on purpose, but Costner would portray Anse as a decent guy. No strong emotions. Not quick to anger. Then, Anse would make a decision that no one with any sense of right/wrong would do. Hell, he almost killed his own son, the only Hatfield with any sense of right/wrong
