Alright I'll start us off this week...
S3 EP9
Why is everything Max says a story? She can't provide a normal answer/discussion.
Random character: What are you ding?
Max: Wheen I was a leetle guuurl, a child, I stahted wif nothing. Nothing. I weel not return to tha daahk place. O hole in tha ground I wus. Do you know? A sacrifice wus made foh me. Remembuh tha nex time you axe a qwestion ok.
I'm like wtf are you talking about? Just answer the question, we don't need some story for everything.
Kind of weird how Nassau turned on Vane so quickly. I mean seemingly a few weeks ago everyone was a pirate, now Vane is getting carried in to be hung and every person in the town is throwing trash/food at him. Like this guy was your hero just a few weeks ago, get a life.
Ol preacher that gave Miranda the best 4 pumps of her life is the worst preacher ever. How could this guy ever have a congregation?
Guy is worse than the advertising I get here in N LA of the mega church where the guy looks like he just screams at you for 2 hours straight. Black Sails preacher just hates his life since he sinned, he's pouring sweat every time you see him.
RIP Vane. One of the GOAT pirates. We will never see the likes of him again. His deep voice and 12 inch dong will never be forgotten. Famous last words: "Get on with it mother f**ker."
Fun fact: In real life, Vane was caught in a storm in the Bay Islands and was marooned on an uncharted island. Upon being discovered by a passing British ship, he was arrested and brought to Port Royal where he was eventually tried and hanged in March 1721.
EP 10
One of my favorite episodes in TV history. Didn't really take many notes in this one just because I was so locked in I didn't want to even pause the show.
The entire conversation with Silver and Flint in the jungle is so so good. I love that the episode is playing out and they keep cutting back to their conversation from the night before.
Silver telling Flint that he has just as much power over the men as Flint was a pretty ballsy move. Maybe not ballsy, but something you haven't seen from anyone else. Silver's character is now a leader, not a follower. He said that he was liked and feared. Flint knew men feared him, but they don't like him. Silver has the edge on him there. As the situation with Dobbs following out his command proves.
RIP Dobbs.
Rackham and Teach on the ship and cannons blasting and one flies right by them and Rackham ducks down, then Teach looks over at him like wtf are you doing ducking, be a man. Then Rackham kind of straightens up, and Teach just grins.
Love it.
A lot more pirate naval strategy that is out of my league of understanding but makes for good TV in this episode.
RIP Hornigold.
As good as Silvers lines are in their conversation in the jungle, Flint ends the episode on a pretty bad arse note. Basically you said all that, but let me end with this... “To whatever extent you may be concerned that some day we will clash – worried that though today we be friends, some day you would have no choice but to be my end – I wouldn’t worry too much” Flint ain't scared of nobody,
S4 EP1
Jack continues to show why I love his character. It's semi comedic relief but also just a this guy is great thing. Jack and Teach are about to go into battle and Jack really wants to rally the men and Teach doesn't care. Teach finally tells Jack to just do it and he goes into his pep talk. Teach looks over at Bonny: "it's no wonder you don't say much."
I feel like even though they are pulling into the port and that's where ships are supposed to pull into a town, why not just park the damn ship out of range from the fort on another spot of the island? Stop pulling up to this port and getting blasted. Pretty smart move on Rodgers part to put the sunken ship there at the port.
Madi finally letting them giant boobs hang out. Her nipples are the size of a normal chick entire tit. She is pretty though imo.
Rodgers has a different look in his eyes these days. He has that killer look in him and he now has a right hand man that is definitely a killer. When Berringer took De Groots ear off, it was hard to if Rodgers was kind of disgusted or if he was loving it.
When Silver cuts his peg leg off when he's drowning and he's swimming back up to the top of the water, why go in a sinking ship? I'm like come on man, just go to the top. I realize there's fighting going on but man it seems like trying to find air in a ship underwater is a bad idea.

I'll add my thoughts later...still have S4E1 to watch. But man, the S3 finale is so awesome. The legend of Long John Silver really grows and is in full effect now. Good stuff.

frick it, I'll add my thoughts on the first two episodes.
S3E9
Vane and Eleanor chatting in his cell was good. She pretended that her father gave a shite about her in the end, but Charles squashed that shite real quick.
And then her teeing off on his face was awesome. I half expected her to start fricking him as she was beating the shite out of him. She’s lucky he loves her or else that fight wouldn’t have been so one-sided.
“I’m not sure if that was a warning or a welcome.” Flint and Silver’s conversations are a real driving force behind the show for me. They are just so fricking good. Flint warning Silver about not letting the dark shite take over him. He’s unintentionally training Silver to become a great pirate now.
I wonder if Silver will ever “go back,” because it definitely seems like he’s about to go black.
I still don’t quite understand why Max chose Mapleton as her madam. And I have to assume she’s full of shite about Idelle being the mole. Because as we know...
The whole Vane trial/hanging thing felt so rushed. It was still great though, especially with Charles being a badass until the end, even walking and stepping off of the trailer himself straight toward certain death. Billy did a good acting job this episode as well.
Charles whispered his lines so fricking hard in that scene too. I guess he had to since he was outside and speaking to a crowd. His voice must have hurt for months after shooting that scene.
But that whole scene, with Charles shaking his hard at Billy, and Billy being merciful sending his men to end Charles’s life faster. It did feel weird with everyone throwing fruits and vegetables at Charles while he walked to the gallows when he was one of the truest pirates of them all. What is this shite, Game of Thrones? SHAME.
S3E10
Jack talking about the irony of everyone trusting, of all people, John fricking Silver with the location of the gold since they believed he would never betray them over money…that was great.
Flint actually tells Silver the WHOLE truth of what started all of this. Nice. I could watch an entire show of Flint and Silver shooting the shite and palling around.
And Silver’s response was great too about how he is now in a position that has gotten multiple people killed (once they get close to Flint). He’s not stupid, that’s for sure.
Muthafricking Blackbeard back in business. LFG.
Agree completely that every single thing Max says is annoying as frick. And not just the way she answers, but the bullshite she actually says too. We need more naked, less talking from her.
The whole Dobbs storyline was awesome. Dude didn’t hesitate in killing his own pirate brother to prove his loyalties to Hornigold.
And man, the whole fight scene where things turn for Hornigold is so great. The look on his face when he put it together what was happening. And Flint standing over him as he takes his last breath was fricking badass.
The naval fight was also awesome, with Anne and crew taking over the other ship and firing on the navy from close proximity.
“To be underestimated is an incredible gift.” Jack fricking Rackham, ladies and gentlemen. He’s so awesome. And proving his point to Blackbeard, no less.
“Captain Throckmorton's black spot will not be the last. Ignore it, and join him. Heed it, and reclaim your place amongst us. Until then, I remain... Long John Silver”
And now the legend of Long John Silver is official, in writing and all. I suspect there have been very few shows that have fleshed out a character as well as Black Sails and Long John Silver.
Also, how badass was Flint at the end of that fight?

It's beyond annoying. Like distractingly so.
Like you said, she just rambles. I get that they are trying to play her up as some genius player, but it's insane how much she simply can't give yes or no answers.
quote:

Very. That whole scene just felt so rushed and out of place for me.
quote:
Famous last words: "Get on with it mother f**ker."
I wonder if there is some truth to those last words. It wouldn't surprise me if those were really his last historically.
quote:

Those were two fantastic scenes. And as awesome as Silver has become, Flint is right there to keep him in check and remind him that he's been awesome for a lot longer and doesn't back down from shite.
The whole Dobbs scene unfolding was Silver's "When I speak, my people listen" moment with Flint just like he had with Madi about that dude on the ship that had been beaten and she knew wasn't gonna say shite.
quote:
Rackham and Teach on the ship and cannons blasting and one flies right by them and Rackham ducks down, then Teach looks over at him like wtf are you doing ducking, be a man. Then Rackham kind of straightens up, and Teach just grins.
That was a great scene. Which makes the "To be underestimated.." line from Rackham even more awesome. Teach definitely underestimates him at almost every turn.

Okay I hate Max as much as everyone now. Did not realize it the first viewing, must have been the bewbs.
Rackham is now beginning to assert himself more and coming into his own. Interactions with Teach are "interesting". Great quote already mentioned, “To be underestimated is an incredible gift”.
Flint and Silver conversations are just so great. Dawned on me that they remind me of Raylan Givens and Boyd Crowder interactions, but Flint and Silver's have so much more depth.
On a side note, the acting in Black Sails is stellar. I am fascinated by the intensity, side glances, smirks & subtleties, etc. that pretty much all of the actors display.
I was bummed when Vane was "hung".
Dobbs storyline threw me for a loop. Thought he had gone over to Hornigold's side but in the end he truly pulled it off.
Woodes Rogers has become a foe to be reckoned with. Brilliant move by sinking the ships near the harbor.
And Berringer makes such a great psychotic baddie. Another side note, Berringer, is portrayed by actor Chris Larkin, who is the real-life brother of Captain Flint actor Toby Stephens.
Israel Hands, another real life pirate & Treasure Island character, woah what's the story on him?! He, along with Featherstone, are my under the radar favorites.
Have I mentioned how much I despise Max?
And boy did Billy frick up.
Flint and Silver.
to all!

David Wilmot, the actor who plays Israel Hands looks nothing like him in real life. Amazing how he transformed into this character. Underrated actor too.

quote:

amazing and just underscored silver's calm response to flint asking what if he betrays him.
someone mentioned hornigold's moment of realization during the ambush but more subtle was his look over at dobbs right before it happened and you can see the little smirk and the color draining from hornigold's face.
quote:
And boy did Billy frick up.
frick max. she's such a fricking bitch and it doesn't get any better. she's only screwing herself as well but she's so fricking cocky that she doesn't even realize how badly she is playing the part of eleanor. her end cant come soon enough..although i dont remember if she gets it by the end of the show or not.
billy fricked up by not making double sure the message that something AS frickING IMPORTANT AS A TRAP THAT WILL SINK ALL SHIPS AND END THE REBELLION gets through to Flint.
you dumb frick.

Eleanor yelling out was some real emotion. That was a long time pent up yell like she knew that was the case.

I half expected her to start fricking him as she was beating the shite out of him.
I wouldn't have fast forwarded.

Man I remember the first time watching this and thinking come on Billy do something. Did not want Vane to die at all. But I get it, there was no way he was getting out of that, no matter what Billy had planned. It would have cost them all their lives and it wouldn't have sent any kind of message.
quote:
His voice must have hurt for months after shooting that scene.
quote:

You aint kidding. The mixture of great action and great dialogue of this show is pretty incredible.

Wonder how Hornigold went out in real life. If he was around that age when he died he definitely lived a longer life than your average pirate. Average age of death for a pirate had to be in the 20's.
quote:
The naval fight was also awesome, with Anne and crew taking over the other ship and firing on the navy from close proximity.
Anne and Eleanor are two good examples of how to do boss bitches on shows. Eleanor can control men a bit but she's also knocked down in her place from time to time. Anne can kick a dudes arse but she isn't invincible taking on 5 dudes at a time.
quote:

Very few, if any.

100%. I mean you can't deny she is fine with a near perfect set

It's top notch. Like I said earlier in the thread, I'm surprised some of these actors didn't become a little more famous. Silver and Jack in particular. But they have been in stuff I haven't seen I'm sure.
quote:
Woodes Rogers has become a foe to be reckoned with. Brilliant move by sinking the ships near the harbor.
For sure. He's I guess the guy most are rooting against but he's honestly a great character. And also the one you technically should be rooting for, but pirates > England.
quote:

Just read Treasure Island and completely forgot Hands was a character in it. My god my memory is bad.

What is y’all’s opinion on which Treasure Island is best? I haven’t seen any of them and will definitely watch now. Disney+ has the older 50’s movie and Prime has the three part series.

Whew if you're struggling there I don't know a whole lot to tell you. Most people are pretty locked in by that point. Especially the season 2 finale. I think the part with the slaves in season 3 dragged a little for most of us, but that's about it. At this point you've watched so much you might as well finish just so you know the ending.
Do you like any of the characters?

There's only one answer...
I actually haven't seen the other two you mentioned but the 1990 one with Charlton Heston and Christian Bale looks to have the highest reviews.

anyone else on this board who would *KILL* for a 2024 remake of Treasure Island using castmembers and writers from BLACK SAILS?
or frick that, a new series called Treasure Island that is a sequel to BLACK SAILS in the same style?
I NEED MORE LONG JOHN SILVER IN MY LIFE
(damn that sounds really wrong when i say it out loud
