I’ve enjoyed the show. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have gotten to S3. The S3 opener was good but the 2 episodes following was painfully slow.

If it makes you feel better, I’ve gotten past it and they’re locked up in cages now and Mr Scott is bleeding on the beach.

(damn that sounds really wrong when i say it out loud

O YEA BABY O YEA, I LIKE THAT

Well I went down a slight rabbit hole to see if there was ever anything spoken about this. Found an article from 2016 before the final season premiered that was talking with the show runners and Luke Arnold (John Silver).

quote:

“Making Treasure Island, I think, is an interesting idea that we have definitely talked about,” Shotz said. “While [the show] is such a lead-up to it, it kind of lives outside of [the book] a little bit. Where we’re going to leave everybody, you can now read the book and you can look at it with a totally different lens, which I think was our goal. I don’t necessarily know if it would fit the children’s story that is Treasure Island, but maybe we could do our own version of a children’s story. The Black Sails version.

“We would totally—the hardest part of ending a series is you become a family. That’s the devastating part: you’re going to miss working with these people, the amazing crew, the cast. So yeah, maybe some version of ‘I miss you guys too much. Let’s figure out how to do this. Let’s get the band back together!’”

quote:

Says Arnold, “I think 10 years would maybe be the way to do it. I think there’s… like Treasure Island is nowhere near the kind of crazy action and philosophy that we’ve had in Black Sails. But doing our version of it would be great; I think it would definitely have to happen down the track though. I know it’s going to take me a while to get over this last season of the show, and I’m sure for the viewers, it’s the same thing. And coming back to it, you’re going to want to feel like a bit of time has passed for everyone involved, but hopefully we keep getting more fans, and the demand for that grows. It would be amazing to come back, see some of the gang again, and do some more in 10-years-time.”

So we're t 8 years now. Hopefully this is still in the back of their minds. Especially since it's reached a wider audience now being on Netflix.

Full article. Just reading that article it shows those guys know how to approach adapting a classic story.

On S4 EP3, why didn’t Teach and Jack just use the cannons and sink the small ship governor was on instead of trying to board it?

When can we talk??

Just want to point out you can't watch E3 without 4,5 and 6...and hell I'm trying hard not to finish.

That run of episodes is better than S2 imo.

Unbelievable I didn't remember a thing about this show apparently. It's like someone made a bunch of really really good new episodes for me to enjoy

Baws, slow down and savor these.

New discussions start on Wednesdays I’m pretty sure. And the discussion will be E2, 3, and 4 of S4 I believe.

Yep. And yea, very brutal.

My 3rd or 4th watch and my skin still crawls every time he goes under that boat.

I had never heard of this until the show but apparently it was a thing. Imagine going out like that

I was stunned and silent the first time I viewed it. I knew of it, but to see it put in practice was unnerving.

Blackbeard would give no quarter to Rogers!!!

Side note from pirate reading, "walking the plank" was rarely ever used.

I digress.

Billy has gone full ham and REALLY frickED UP NOW! Flint and Billy are now officially mortal enemies. And I don't understand Billy's short sightedness when it comes to the big picture. I guess his hatred of Flint has now been fully unleashed.

Max - so she is the cause of sooooooo many problems. Not Featherstone. Not Billy. Her! And her bullshite rationalization for her actions, not buying what your selling.

Madi has more depth than I originally gave her credit for. She is commited to the cause.

Anne Bonny sacrificing herself to save the remnants of Jacks crew. Almost as intense as Blackbeard's death.

I hate Max.

And Berringer got what he deserved. Loved his discussion with Woodes Rogers regarding how far Rogers would go if need be, which he did.

It really is pretty jarring. There's the "what movie scene scarred you" on the first page. If it included TV shows, this would be on the list. Didn't scar me, but it certainly a TV moment etched into my brain.

quote:

Blackbeard would give no quarter to Rogers!!!

And saved probably the rest of the crews life because he was such a boss. It don't matter how cold blooded you are, you could only stomach so much of that if you thought "damn what if all of these pirates are like this?" The crew would probably start to turn on him if he kept torturing others like that.

And props to the makeup crew on that one. I mean the way his body and face was done it really looked like he had been drug under a ship numerous times. By the end, half of his face was peeled off. Maybe just me, but it looked pretty realistic

Billy is the first character that is just fully sick of Flint and openly willing to rebel against him. It just comes at a really odd time. Even if you hate him, it's an odd time to defy him because you're not going to accomplish what you want without him. I get that Silver wasn't originally there and that's who you were wanting to lead, but like you say, just a little short sided on his part.

quote:

Max - so she is the cause of sooooooo many problems. Not Featherstone. Not Billy. Her! And her bullshite rationalization for her actions, not buying what your selling.

It's so bad. It's seriously almost every single thing that she does now. She used to make some pretty wise decisions and so playing her off as a mastermind worked ok, but now she's making all these dumb decisions and she's still trying to act like a mastermind. It's not working.

I love the introduction of Israel Hands. He's such a great character, and is a total badass.

fricking Billy, man. Now is not the time, dude. Chill the frick out and know your role. He is singlehandedly fricking up everything.

fricking Max. It's hard not just outright purely hate her at this point. They really messed up with her character. Like it was said above, before in her role you looked at her experiences as making her wise. And now they just make her cocky and annoying. She was a bad replacement for Eleanor and can't play the same role well at all.

Woodes Rogers is such an awesome character. His story of killing the 73 men aboard that ship after his brother died was crazy. He is definitely capable of being a brutal psychopath. And of course Berringer is over there jerking off listening to that story since he is also a psycho.

The Silver and Madi reunion was cool. We finally see something Silver actually gives a shite about. Between her and the crew, he better be careful or he's gonna become a proper pirate.

But anyway, frick all that....it's MOTHERfrickING BLACKBEARD TIME.

Talk about one of, if not THE most badass deaths of all time television history. That dude is a straight boss until the bitter end. Great acting by everyone involved in that scene, from the main players like Rogers and Blackbeard, to the secondary ones like Jack and Anne. Even the extras like the British soldiers did a great job as everyone kept watching in disgust as Rogers carelessly kept ordering him over the side of the boat.

"Again."
"Again."

Only to have his badass moment completely stolen from him by a total badass himself, Blackbeard. It was so great how every time Rogers thought he was dead and was pissed off that he wasn't. And after that third time when Blackbeard could no longer get up but shot him that wicked side eye, that was just awesome. He was like "I'm still here, motherfricker. Now what?" to the point where Rogers just shoots him in the head and chooses not to kill any more of them. That was a pretty shocking scene the first time you see it, and I have to imagine there has never been anything even remotely close that has been put on film that has more accurately portrayed a keelhauling. I'm wondering what our first-time watchers thought about it.

And S4E3 even ends with more battle and a complete comeuppance received by Berringer on the gallows in front of everyone. Just a great episode and likely the best of the series.

E4 is equally brutal with Jack and crew onboard with that lieutenant who is making them all fight Mr. Milton. That dude is HGUE AS frick. And does he ever fricking get tired?

And making Jack choose the fighters was brutal as well, knowing they were going to keep dying.

Good on Anne Bonny to step up and take matters into her own hands. And she rightfully takes a beating of her own in the process. But this show did a good job of making us believe she was at least badass enough of a female that if she got her hands on a knife (or shard of glass) that she could take down someone like Milton. So it's not like she was going all Mary Jane in this episode, which was nice. And her snatching the keys was a great move as well.

So Max spills the secret of the plantation thing in Florida where rich people disappear to. Foreshadowing. I completely missed that the first time I watched the show.

When did Eleanor actually marry Rogers? I noticed an episode or two ago they started referring to her as his actual wife. Did that happen offscreen between S3 and S4? And of course now she's is pregnant. Nice. I bet she has a fricking daughter, who does nothing but shop constantly.

Eleanor's last ditch effort to survive completely undermines everything Rogers has worked for. I suspect he won't be pleased with her giving up, although maybe he will right it off and not worry about it since her pussy has him under such a strong spell.

And for the first time Flint and Silver aren't on the same page. That can't bode well.

I'm gonna miss this show in a couple weeks. And I bet Eleanor and Max miss the simpler times...

Ok: I hate max. Had to get that out first.

I knew the term and what it was but until that scene I had no way to put into words how brutal it was. Good God imagine being Jack and Bonnie watching that.

One of the best moments of the entire series was the way Teach's white milky unrelenting eye turned towards Woods. He fricking beat Woods even in death. That haunted me as much as the graphic skinning alive with the clouds of blood following the carcass under the ship.

I am trying to put myself into Jack's head the moment he realized Teach just saved him and Bonnie from that gruesome death.

frick Vane. Teach is the best person you've ever known now, Jack.
