How are we looking on this weeks schedule? I was catching up on House of the Dragon season one so I've only got to watch one episode this week. Going to try and watch two episodes tonight so I'm caught up for the new discussion tomorrow.
Posted on 6/18/24 at 10:25 am to iwyLSUiwy
I watched all mine over the weekend so I'm good to go.
Posted on 6/18/24 at 5:42 pm to iwyLSUiwy
I'm on S4E2
hard to stop when the action starts to take off at the end of a season. I'll try to slow my roll so I can discuss the correct episodes. So much to talk about towards the end of S3.
ETA anyone just sit back and let the whole intro play before watching an episode? I don't do it every time but damn that's a straight up fire opening even if it's a bit long. Perfect music and visuals.

Every time. Without question. It’s a perfect intro.

Here is a cool clip of the composer Bear McCreary discussing the intro. It’s played on an instrument called a hurdy gurdy.

Edited OP for new schedule.
Current Discussion: S3, EP6 to EP8
Current Watch: S3, EP9 to S4, EP1.
The season 3 finale is the 2nd highest rated episode of the entire series on IMDB. Some good episodes on this weeks watch.

Top 3 intro ever. I don't watch every time but most of the time. It for real gets you pumped up for the episode it's so badass.

I expected some discussion on last week's episodes. I guess I'm gonna be the first one every week to post.
S3E6
Man, that Flint/Teach fight was rough. Shows you just how good of a fighter Blackbeard truly is. He was kicking Flint's arse and it wasn't remotely close.
Teach telling Flint to take him and leave the island was cool. You can tell how much love/respect he has for Charles, even after now being completely fricked over by him twice.
Jack returning to Nassau was great. He hated everything.
S2E7
Anne played like a fiddle and tricked into handing over the gold without even a slight struggle.. Shocker.
Governor Rogers being so indebted to Spain that he's basically their bitch and has to do whatever they want....bad news for my man Jack.
Oh loo, Eleanor finally actually fricks Rogers to solidify her political position in Nassau. Shocker, because as we all know:
Man, oh man. We finally get to see some justice handed down to that bitch Dufresne. Silver is really ingraining himself into the show and his own legend now, and I'm all here for it. Just straight up stomps Dufresne's face to a pulp with his peg leg. fricking brutal. But what a total boss pirate type of move though.
I may have missed it, but why did Max bring back that Mapleton chick to be the madam? It was only like a couple of episodes ago that she made Idelle the madam, right?
That conversation between Flint and Rogers was cool. I actually like Woodes Rogers and think he's a great character. And the dude plays him well to be teetering on the "Is he good/bad" and "He seems harmless but also like he's capable of being a psychopath" edge.
Ah yes, Vane's plan to get both Jack and the gold...
S3E8
The whole thing where the Walrus is on the horizon but because her sails are down they are invisible is really cool. Equally as cool is Hornigold having his man continue watching the horizon where the Walrus disappeared and noticed the glint from the spyglass.
Silver going with the Full Metal Jacket approach on Dobbs. Ouch. I wonder if he gathered them all around and was like "Hey, let's do the FMJ thing to Dobbs to teach him a lesson." And everyone was like "What's FMJ?" And then Silver is like "It's a movie that will come out in like 272 years, but this is what they do..."
Madi being all "My men listen to me without question" was pretty cool. I suspect Silver will take some leadership pointers from her and become a better one.
Flint's turn in character is so awesome now. When they tell him Vane was captured by Hornigold/Rogers, he doesn't even hesitate to go back in alone to try and free him. Billy is right in that Flint is more valuable alive than dead and to let someone else go after Vane. But it's just cool that once Miranda was killed, Flint no longer gives any fricks and is all pirate.
Eleanor telling Rogers that she is committed to him 100% and that she loves him 100% and that all she wanted was to see retribution and see Vane killed for murdering her father.....but that even still she doesn't know how she will react to seeing Vane in captivity....was pretty crazy. She must really love that weird bodied huge penis dude.
It's pretty crazy that we're already into S4 this week. That's one great thing about a show like this. It's a relatively short and easy watch. And one of the most badass scenes in TV history is coming up either this week or next week. So I am pumped for that.

Finished my watch last night. And went into EP 9 because EP8 had me kind of jacked up and wide awake.
Kind of short and sweet but a pretty epic fight scene. Had we seen Flint lose a fight to this point? Teach is such a badass. I'll say it again, really really wish he was in the show more.
I was thinking during this episode how much Spain kind of pisses me off. You know, you lost the gold, I get it, but you lost it. Your ship wrecked, your men got sick, and it was taken from you in a fight. I know it's an insane amount of money but they should be thankful that they were getting at least half of it back. I want to tell Spain to just F off and say too bad, you shouldn't have wrecked your ship and lost the fight.
I didn't fast forward through it.
Yea I mean that is one of the highlights of the entire series for me. Dufresne has had that punchable face and attitude for a long time and seeing it get stomped in was definitely a highlight. I'm not going to complain about that scene (going to make a another post on it when I get a minute) because it was obviously awesome, but I'm not going to lie, I could have stood to seen him suffer a little more. Although getting squashed like a little ant was probably more fitting. If you don't like that scene, then I don't know what to tell you.
Yea I like him too. I like these scenes where the well known fictional characters finally meet up with the well known historical/real life characters. Had two episodes in a row now with Flint seeing Teach and now meeting Rodgers. Rodgers ain't no punk,he just handles things a different way.
I actually think that's how it happened. During that scene I was just thinking how bad it hurts when you just get a nut tap from someone, and just imagine how bad it would hurt to get them blasted with a bag full of something over and over. Ugh. There probably won't ever be any little Dobbs running around after that beating his nuts took.
People like to talk about the gay stuff with Flint and I get it, and I actually felt like vengeance for Thomas was his main motivation. But this go around I think the motivation for his revenge and anger is definitely more towards what happened to Miranda. I mean I know he still cares about Thomas but his dreams/visions are about Miranda and he's talked to numerous people now about Miranda and I think even talked about his love for her. Just kind of stood out to me that I think he cared for Miranda a lot more than I remember.
Soon we're going to have to start discussing what's the next show on the rewatch/1st watch schedule.

Not really lose outright like that, no. But his fight in S1 against Singleton was close. Singleton was sort of kicking his arse (and even had the "I'm trying to stab you in the face with the knife as you fight against me not to" part) before he finally got the upper hand. Flint was touched up and bloody as hell by the end of that.

Yeah Spain is pissing me off this go round as well, and I don't remember feeling much of that the first time I watched it. But they definitely are pushing themselves a bit with the threats. The problem though, is that Rogers has a depleted military force and a depleted harbor/fort and Spain is a legit country with legit money and a legit army. So Rogers knows he can't really do shite except acquiesce.

I feel like getting your face/head crushed in by another man equates to a good amount of suffering.

As I stand right now, I legit don't remember what happens with the whole Rogers/Governor plotline. So I am kinda pumped about that. I know something will jog my memory with that eventually, but I'm firmly in the "I have forgotten so much about this show that parts of it are like new for me" camp that someone mentioned a page or two back.

It's Miranda, no question. Trying not to spoil...while we know Flint's consolation prize is good, Miranda was his future and his love for her started long before he and Thomas ever got into their gay thing. And she is the one that made the voyage with him and sort of set up the alternate life there. And she was the one continuously working with him toward that future. So once she was taken from him for virtually no reason in Charlestown, his "reason for living" was gone and it lends him to lean fully into the piracy/revenge mode.

Well it was kind of forced upon them.
But I digress, she specifically warned McGraw that he didn't truly understand how these people work (power). And in the end, she was correct.

Ahh, yea. Forgot about Singleton. Odds are Singleton could have kicked pretty much everyone elses arse as well outside of Vane and Teach had he lasted. I'd like to see Billy in a proper scrap as well.

Seems like England would have sent some reinforcements by this point. I know they brough a pretty big fleet over but it's still not enough to properly defend the place.

same. I think if I thought about it enough I might be able to think of what happens to him (I certainly remember one scene in particular involving him). It's so bad because this is at least my 3rd watch, possibly 4th.

Yea I definitely have a different perspective this go around. I know she wasn't a favorite character, but I kind of miss slooty Miranda. Now that I'm approaching 40, she was definitely the hottest one on the show for me

Season 4, Episode 3.
Epic.
Ranks with Ozymandias & International Assassin as GOAT material.
That is all.

Season 4, Episode 3
Definitely looking forward to that. I'm starting the S3 finale tonight which is one of my favorites.
Just a few notes on the current discussion that weren't mentioned...
Featherstone is an underrated character. He's getting dressed up in his fancy clothes...
Idelle: How does it look?
Featherstone: You mean aside from the titty curtains?
Then jack see's him dressed like that later and says "You're dressed like a Turkish whore"
Fun fact from episode 6: The book that Madi picks up after her conversation with Scott is Rogers' memoir, Voyage Round the World.
Episode 7 was a game changer for Silver. The scene at the bar with Silver stomping in Dufresne was obviously awesome but the way the scene opened was pretty great too. He walks in and the first thing he says is: "I understand this is the place cowards come to beg forgiveness from a king." Such a cool/appropriate line.
To me that's where the legend of Silver really takes off. That's the kind of story that spreads. "My name is John Silver, and I've got a long f**king memory."
Fun fact from episode 7: In real life, an epidemic broke out in Nassau shortly after Governor Rogers' arrival. As in the show, only Rogers and his people were affected, while the longtime residents of Nassau were not. 86 of Rogers' party died, as well as six sailors from the HMS Milford and HMS Rose.
Curious if the story that Rackham told Rodgers in the camp about his family history and why he essentially became a pirate is true. When he was talking about his family being a long line of tailers/textile industry. Probably not, but it was a good story. Jack and Rodgers carriage ride was good TV.
*Looked it up before submitting the post. Wiki fandom had a note on it...
quote:
Jack's backstory is very reminiscent of real life events in early 1700s England. Calico is a type of cotton originating in India which became popular in England after its introduction. However, an Act of Parliament was passed in 1700 in order to prevent the import of cotton from India from undermining the wool industry. This lines up exactly with the story Jack tells Rogers. Furthermore, it serves as an homage to the real life Jack Rackham's moniker, "Calico Jack," who was known for wearing calico clothing.
