That dude took it like a champ. I can't imagine what I'd be doing, but it wouldn't be as calm as that dude.

Definitely one of the more underrated/best characters on the show. Not sure what the gyms looked like back then but Billy is jacked. Dudes biceps are massive Whenever I'd watch Game of Thrones everytime he was in a scene I'd just think "I can't believe they have Billy Bones playing this lame Dickon Tarly character." He deserved better.

Surprised some of these actors didn't get some better roles going forward. You don't see many of them in much stuff, or at least I haven't.

S3E3

Once again, Flint making the tough decisions by splitting the crew into starters and bench players. Of course it’s brutal and of course it doesn’t seem fair. But yet again, it’s the necessary call to be made to give the majority of the crew its best chance to survive. I find myself having a lot more legit respect for Flint this time around than on my first watch. Not many men can not only lead men but truly be an actual leader of men. And he’s great at both.

Just like killing the two men who stole rations. There’s no time for bullshite in this life-or-death situation, and Flint is the only one who sees that. Again, harsh and brutal, but also likely the right call in that situation.

Oh yeah…totally forgot about the island of natives (slaves). IIRC this drags for a few episodes a little bit.

So Rogers promised to return the Urca gold to Spain? And also conquer Nassau and have it up and running in 2 months? Yikes.

S3E4

Jack shooting that dude outside the door of the fort is awesome.

Man, Eleanor just got a pretty huge raise. Talk about always falling upwards for that chick. She reminds me of those coaches who luck into early success, then suck at their jobs, but always seem to land another one, or even better ones than they previously had. She's like Doc Rivers.

And you know it’s only a matter of time before she fricks this governor Rogers dude and starts slinging it to gain power and control. She ain’t stupid.

“Godspeed, Charles.”
“frick you, Jack.”

The street fight with Vane and then Blackbeard was pretty sweet. I’d watch a spinoff series focused on those two and their previous conquests.

The marooned island princess chick, Madi, is low key kinda beautiful.

That escape plan from Blackbeard was badass. Light a ship on fire and sail it right into one of Rogers’s ships, create chaos, and then escape into the night while the ships are scrambling. Brilliant.

Oh yeah, that’s right; it’s Mr. Scott’s people. I remember that now. And now that he’s gutshot he’s heading there, which will be Flint’s ticket out of there.

S3E5

I’m not a huge fan of the Flint dream sequences at all.

The look on Max’s face when she sees Eleanor is . She’s just like “This bitch? You gotta be fricking kidding me…” And I can’t stand Max, but I’d be pissed too if I were her and you don’t want me on your council but want my blessing. frick off with that noise.

Yup, there it is. Eleanor about to let Rogers get up in them guts, because as we know…

So now Max is legit trying to buy her way into more power. Bold move, but not a dumb one though.

This spy chick (Mrs. Hudson per the BS Wiki) says that Spain expects all of the gold/pearls. But they only know how much of the gold was traded for pearls…they don’t know the whereabouts or status of the gold/pearls, nor how much of it is left. It seems like Rogers could just simply say this was all that was left when we got ahold of it. And I suspect Mrs. Hudson isn’t long for this world considering she just admitted to being a Spanish spy.

So now we’re set back up with Flint and crew heading back to find Vane/Blackbeard and take back Nassau. And we also have Jack walking back to Nassau as well to make a name for himself. Let’s finally get into this fight for Nassau instead of all these pussy arse pardons being handed out.

Also, side note: these last two episodes have VERY minimal Jack in them. And that is not a good thing.

That is actually historical, with the exception of it being Jack Rackham that did this instead of Blackbeard. Jack also stole one of their larger ships and left his smaller ship as a decoy that they blew to smithereens and when they realized what had happened he was long gone and they were out of canons

Silver is still a little too soft to make the tough call. He cares about the crew which in the long run is a good play but it doesn't work in situations like this. Not that I've ever been in a situation like this but the crew would probably be dead if that situation was left up to Silver. Though I guess he should get credit for catching the Sharks.

I watch them late at night so I'm usually a little tired but this is the first time I've fallen asleep watching. This episode was probably the most dialogue driven so it was definitely one of the slowest episodes.

I wouldn't fast forward.

Vane and Blackbeard fighting can go right into my veins.

Yea I enjoyed that too. The pirate strategy chess match really is a good aspect of the show.

They're pretty creepy. Like something out of a horror movie. Was even weirder when you couldn't understand what she was saying.

quote:

As I've said, I'm not a Max fan this go around, but she isn't dumb. This was a pretty legit strategy/boss move. Was definitely a smart leverage play.

Looks like alien. This is what I think of when I see her. The long neck people from Star Wars.

So how does she know that that was only half of it? Hmm.

Flint is the man. His leadership, although brutal at times, gives his men their best shot at success. Many interesting maneuvers taken on the island. Ben Gunn! Ha! remember that name.

Silver stepping up to the plate and forcing Flynn to recognize his "equalness" and demand respect going forward. Always looking at the situation in a different light than Flint, which I believe makes them even more formidable.

Vane and Blackbeard interactions do not seem the same as I would have imagined their first go round was. Vane seems a bit hesitant in his loyalties, although he continues to offer his support.

Billy continues to grow in stature.

And Jack, oh boy. Stuff is about to go down. Which will snare Anne & Max in his oh so tangled web. Interesting read about Anne in Under the Black Flag.

Woodes Rogers. Snake in the grass, "privateer" at heart, true leader, crown lackey, what?

Catching so many more details the second go round, burned thru the first viewing so fast.

Dang Jack, that's what's up. Going to have to put this fantasy series I'm reading on pause to get started on some historical pirate books

I figured that was a real move they did since when they saw it coming they started shouting "fire ship!" or something like that. Figured that wasn't just a made up term. Pretty cool.

Yea for those that haven't read Treasure Island, he was a key character in that. Not really spoiling anything, it's just cool to see how they weave in the mixture of book and real life people into the show. It's pretty fitting how they did it with Ben.

One of the quotes I wrote down while watching this week...
"Whatever happens out here one thing is for certain; you will account for me."

Not sure what the general consensus is with his character but I actually like him at this point. I mean he's still pretty new and you see that he's about to go up against characters that you like even more, but I think he's a pretty good character.

I'm an episode or 2 ahead but holy shite nothing goes as planned does it?

The Jack story is starting to get good.

Oh and frick Max with a diseased dick. I don't remember what happens next but I hope she gets what's coming to her. Poor attempt to be another Eleanor and she gettin' played.

Don't frick with Jack.

Eta I didn't remember the slave island bit being as boring the first time around. That storyline just freaking drags the second time around.

Imagine if she was ugly. At least she's a smoke show.

I can't really remember if I start liking or disliking her more going forward.

its amazing to me how little i remember from this show

other than those few major moments (like when all the gun doors on the man-o-war open up) and disturbing scenes, it feels like a brand new show to me.

i guess this is one of the 'fun' things about getting older; getting to enjoy a series you loved and feel like you're watching it again for the first time

I mean two dudes kiss for a few seconds. I probably fast forwarded it even though it was just a few seconds because that's not my thing. ANd they were fully clothed. That's D on D.

There have been other gay scenes I didn't fast forward though. Longer scenes with titties in them.

The titties heavily outweigh the one gay scene. I mean it was nothing compared to the stuff that was in Game of Thrones.
