Despite his best efforts, Silver has feelings for the crew and cares pretty deeply for them.

it took me a second why Silver said the words that hurt him the most of anything was "we'll take care of you".

he's having to come to grips with the fact he's not a 100% physically able man anymore and will have to more than make up for that now with his intuition and leadership abilities. in that episode where the guy died (brutal, btw ) you could feel Silver's despair at being relegated to hammering wooden plugs into the ship and trying to judge whether or not he's still worthy as a steward of men.

eta and not trying to get ahead of anything, but its also interesting to watch how he struggles with that peg leg and fighting off infection and overuse as he starts to get comfortable with it.

just a great show all around.

Billy provided the diary, but I think it was all Vane as to how it was handled. Turning the fort cannons onto the inner town definitely feels like a Vane kind of move.

Yea you right, for sure.

The scene honestly reminded me a little bit of The Bells in GoT. Except it was done really well and made sense with the how the story was progressing and you understood why the main character did it because he actually lost someone not just because another person wouldn't be with them and they weren't just rushed into doing something after building the character up for 8 seasons only to have them change in the course of two episodes and the show runners were actually still invested in the show and the writers weren't fat lazy bastards and actually got the story finished. What were we talking about?

quote:

I remember thinking it was so cool on my first watch how we get to see how Long John Silver lost his leg. I never read those books or anything as a kid (or an adult), but the whole peg leg pirate thing is such an ingrained thing into that legend. And I just remember thinking how cool this show was when that scene happened. It's really great how they mix in real life shite with fictional shite. It sort of gives it all this gravitas of "legend."

Yea it's crazy how good they have done the backstory's for things that you knew were coming like Silver losing his leg/knowing he was a peg leg. I don't see how they could have done it better. Same for Flint getting the name Flint like I mentioned earlier in the thread. Knowing that Vane, Rackham, Teach were all real pirates makes you think the first go around wait a sec, are Silver and Flint real pirates as well

Max is for sure my least favorite of the main characters this go around. I don't remember disliking her that much.

I don't know if it's the voice (what accent is that? That can't be her real voice right?) that is annoying me more or the rapid progression of her social status that.

She actually says "in another time they would call me a queen. I built all of this from nothing." No, in another time they would call you a whore and you built literally none of the things you now how. You didn't build the brothel. You didn't build the tavern. You just bought them with gold.

honestly i thought she died in the first few episodes when she was captured and raped by vane's men.

i watched the entire series and had forgotten she was in it after the first 3 or 4 episodes.

tGOATyrant. Man I love me some Jack.I like a lot of the characters, but he is by far my favorite. His humor/facial expression are the best and it's nice having someone with some actual smarts. Although they definitely built Max up to be some mastermind, which is kind of an annoying come up for a hoe.

Yeah the Max thing is super annoying. I get it, but I borderline can't stand her.

And Jack is so funny and smart, which is a pleasant contrast to most of the others on the show. That one pirate dude who kept taking out 500 pieces of 8 and immediately losing it was great. Jack just didn't know what to do with that dude, and he was disgusted by him.

Also why it was funny to see Blackbeard shite all over Jack as well. We've come to know and love that dude and appreciate him for what he is (and how he's grown), and Blackbeard dismisses him as some skinny pussy he used to know in like ten seconds.

Ha! Blackbeard knows the truth!

I know Jack is a favorite here, but damn he is lucky.

Hear me out.

Vane's blessing, at the behest of the suddenly despised Max here, is the only path for him getting a ship.

Killing Captain of Goliath was an "inadvertent "lucky strike, and yes quick thinking on bringing the captured sailors into the fold to make a stand against the other pirates.

If Anne had not been present, Eleanor's assassins would have probably killed him.

I guess you could counter with Jack makes his own luck.

Don't get me wrong, Rackham is a great character - they all are. Flint remains my favorite, with single-minded Vane a close second. And Silver & Billy have such gravitas at this stage.

On to the Blackbeard saga!

Damn - I loved this!!

"Ready the guns. Full compliment."
"What’s the target, captain?"
"Whatever’s left."

Rewatching House of the Dragon before the new season comes out as well and Daemons whore/wannabe wife has the same voice as Max except worse. It's like they told her to try and sound like Max from Black Sails and she does a terrible job at it. It is for sure the most annoying accent ever

All of that is true but it's honestly part of what makes him likable. He's not the typical badass pirate and has to fins another way to make it up.

I think you could argue Flint and Silver are as smart as Jack but Flint is a little too reckless/unhinged and Silver at this point is really still learning the ropes. Jack has a somewhat level head and just wants to take a shite in peace and for some reason people are always interrupting him.

Also maybe Jack did a little fighting himself in getting the Urca gold. There were still people on the island left to defend it or at least more than their small crew was expecting.

S3E3 Rackham to 20 other pirate captains: "You're going to behave like chlidren, then I'll be your daddy."

The struggle is real. Vane's voice always bothered me, and Max's didn't. It's completely opposite this time around. I hate it too because it's making me dislike her character more than I should I think Like no one should hate those fun bags she has just because of her voice.

When Silver tells Flint that Vincent confessed to him that he had lied about the situation with the Urca gold and had sold the information to another crew, did anyone else think Flint believed Silver was behind the scheme? (which we all of course knew he was). He was understandably pissed & Silver was very wary of telling him the story, but at the moment, Flint seemed to sense Silver was the mastermind & was ready to "kill" Silver at that moment.

Or I'm projecting.

Is this the scene when Silver wakes up for the first time after getting his leg cut off?

Silver knew he could tell his lies now that both guys that came back from the beach were dead and Flint wouldn't know. Flint did seem hesitant to believe him but from that scene in particular I didn't get the sense that he didn't believe him. Though it's hard to think that Flint won't find out something.

Unless that's a scene from a future episode.

That's going to be my next read.

Finished Treasure Island as well and honestly wasn't as crazy about it as I remember being as a teenager. Honestly like the show better. Probably liked Treasure Island so much in high school because it was probably the only book I read the entire time I was there

How are we looking on our watch? I still have an episode and a half to watch before tomorrow.

Not going to go into details yet but damn the stranded/no wind/dead whale episode is so good.

"we can eat those"

i'm up to E5 or 6 i think. i nodded off once or twice though so i need to rewatch the whole thing. tbh, S3 is dragging a bit for me; after the excellent S2 i had forgotten there was a lull ( pun intended) or maybe i'm just not a huge fan of the 'undiscovered island' story arc.

"How stupid are your men?"

"It's hard to say"

Just finished S3E2 last night and to answer some questions/echo what was said from a first time watcher:

- the intro scene for Black Beard was badass
- the naval strategy of the trap and Flint running away was cool
- the drowning death in the hold was absolutely brutal. My god what an awful way to go
- Billy is still an extremely underrated badass in this show
