Sorry fellas but I don't get the love for this film. I mean I thought it was solid but not a must see.
Take Kilmer's Doc out and you're probably right.

Yea without Doc the movie wasn't very good. I enjoyed open range a lot more. Any other suggestions?

The western genre is dying and it makes me sad.
TBH, most westerns back in the day were pretty crappy. We only see the classics now, and have an inflated view of the genre. My dad watches the western channel a lot, and I understand that, it reconnects him with when he was a youngin. But objectively, most of the movies they show are stinkers. Sorry, they just are.
OP, Tombstone is worth a watch. Dana Delany in a corset

I'm not sure how anyone makes it too far in life without seeing this movie. Do you just smile and nod while people around you are quoting it or what?
I've actually been to the real Tombstone in AZ and still have never seen the movie
But I guess since I'm a chick I get a pass.

All time or some newer ones?

This movie is a guilty pleasure of mine. I think it is a must see among westerns and really movies in general. It is pretty cheesy at times and Michael Biehn bounces from terrible to decent. Theres some shady acting for sure.
But it has some great scenes and it is incredibly quotable. Most of it from Kilmers Holliday. It is an all time great performance IMO, not just in a western, but across all genres.
I highly recommend it, just dont go in expecting great acting and directing across the board.

Not saying there aren't a ton of stinkers back in the day. But even the few amount that are made today just don't do that well at the box office. There were multiple long lasting western tv shows. We get one really good one on HBO, Deadwood, and it dies in a hurry. The genre in general just doesn't do it for the general public like it used to.

Tombstone is money. Val Kilmer steals the show. Possibly his best performance.

Silverado
I don't know about all that.
Agreed. Silverado was a cartoon.

Also, The Assasination of Jessie James by the Coward Robert Ford is one of the best westerns of all time. Very slow though. Not really a shoot em up western, more on the creepy side than anything. One of the more unique westerns out there.
Also, still talking modern day, Open Range and Appaloosa are worth a watch. 3:10 to Yuma is a decent remake and the new True Grit is better than the Wayne True Grit.
Damn. Your taste in westerns rivals my own.
And The Assassination of Jesse James, etc., is a beautiful movie.

I wonder how much garbage you've watched waisting your time on reruns of mike & Molly while you could have watched tombstone.

Lonesome Dove (probably the best western of all-time)
My second favorite Eastwood western(behind Unforgiven) is Two Mules for Sister Sara. I don't think it gets the credit it deserves.
There's another Robert Duvall movie I saw one time, Broken Trail I think is the name. It was a TV mini-series. He's probably one of the best, if not THE best western actors of all-time. He was really good in this one. He has a line in there something like "can't believe you hanged that SOB and used my good rope".

The Culpepper Cattle Company It's what Lonesome Dove aspired to be.
Rancho Deluxe A modern (1970's) western. Jeff Bridges, Elizabeth Ashley, Slim Pickens, Jimmy Buffett.
