Absolutely. As the "modern" westerns go, it is in the "must" watch category along with Unforgiven and Silverado.

I would recommend it over the underrated, but ultimately inferior Wyatt Earp (Kevin Costner, Dennis Quaid).

Do you like highly entertaining and very quotable movies? If so, then should watch it.

I don't know about all that.

Agreed.

Also, The Assasination of Jessie James by the Coward Robert Ford is one of the best westerns of all time. Very slow though. Not really a shoot em up western, more on the creepy side than anything. One of the more unique westerns out there.

Also, still talking modern day, Open Range and Appaloosa are worth a watch. 3:10 to Yuma is a decent remake and the new True Grit is better than the Wayne True Grit.

The western genre is dying and it makes me sad.

As a Coen Brothers fan, John Wayne fan, and fan of the original True Grit - it is a shame that I have not sat down to watch this film, yet.

Hollywood has destroyed my faith in any sequel, reboot, remake, etc., with the only exceptions being my relative ignorance of the original - even then, it has been hit and miss (I liked the Coens' Ladykillers and the remake of Assault on Precinct 13, although I didn't really understand the need to remake either of them.)

I'm not sure how anyone makes it too far in life without seeing this movie. Do you just smile and nod while people around you are quoting it or what?

You should. It's a different movie entirely, as the Coens are far more faithful to the book. don't even think of it as a remake, as their intentions are so different (mythmaking vs. myth-destroying).

And Tombstone might be the manliest movie ever made outside the 1970s.

Wow....next your gonna say you've never seen The Man Who Shot Libert Valance or The Outlaw Josey Wales

Tombstone is great....and agree on the Coward movie...it was on this weekend when I was flipping around and watched it for a little bit. The cinematography in it is great.
