After Star Wars and Deadpool, how is it not obvious to these studios that nerds go to these movies because we enjoy these characters. We don't want different takes on them, because when they change too much, it stops being the characters we enjoy.
Correct...and before changing something shouldn't someone ask, "Hey...is this in need of change?" Sure...you want to lose the outer underwear like they did in New 52 since it was a strange thing to begin with and only done because at the time it was reminiscent to the old strongmen from the sideshow...sure! But when you change these iconic characters so much that fans need to go through all these machinations to try and accept why they are so different, you've just gone way too far as to make them largely unrecognizable to who they were.
quote:
They can change small things about the characters to fix stupid plot holes or condiluted character backgrounds, but when you change defining characteristics, it stops being fun.
Right. Change can be both fine and even great...if it's warranted or done with a light touch. If it's only done to try and push the envelope without any solid reasoning and done as if testing the audience, than no...not so cool.
quote:
But that was not the movie I wanted as a comic book fan.
Again...I haven't seen it, but this is my main gripe because it seems to be nearly universal from those who do really love the characters. Unless you're some kind of performance artist who's desire is to always push the art form, it would seem that you'd be making a movie to appeal to the largest possible audience. In this case, it's a fricking tent pole giant that's the to kick off their grandiose DC Universe...and they allow Snyder to almost purposefully piss off the core fans who were DYING to love this movie by forcing them to accept changes they never asked for.
For the life of me I have no clue what WB and DC were thinking when going down this road...it would have been so easy to do it right, and I give zero fricks if that will then be spun as "going safe." You're god damned right they should have gone safe, as safe sounds like simply utilizing their source materials, making everyone giddy and cashing checks.

This quote just emphasizes the problem with Snyder. He thinks something sounds cool so on a whim he throws it in there whether it fits into the story or not.
He took a bunch of crap he liked from 50 different sources, threw it in a blender, and gave you Batman v Superman

Oh, and another thing I would like to see is the end of Clark and Lois. Let's move to Clark and Diana.

I just like the New 52's take of Supes and WW.

Bet this movie is viewed in a better light with time
But right now when people are still trying to understand the story and adjust to change, the dislike will remain.

This was on the SHH boards. Not sure who this guy is but very good news for the film, if true.

I feel like all of Snyder's films kind of fade though. 300 - meh in retrospect. Watchmen, the fanfare has faded (and on subsequent viewings I liked it less and less). MoS - certainly and BvS helped push that even further. Snyder's films lack strong central themes that stick and require rewatches.
I think the "OMG worst movie ever!" might not stick, but I don't think it will improve over time. I think the only thing that can help is that JL/WW movies make it look better. But I thought that would be the case with this and MoS.

His movies are heavily visual pieces and work only if the plot is a nearly straight linear course.
BvS just seemed too jumpy.

BvS does make MoS look better because it's now part of a longer narrative. Hell, it would've helped if MoS would've ended with Batman seeing the carnage on a monitor in the Batcave and saying, "Never again" or something like that. But watchng MoS and thinking that it was a standalone movie without a planned sequel... There was no hope for redemption at that point.
BvS even improves on that shitty Pa Kent (just by an inch or two) with his Silence of the Horses speech.

I enjoyed it more on my second viewing. It was more coherent, but maybe I was too harsh on the initial viewing. Bottom line... WB has got to get someone involved who can help Synder tell a cohesive story if the DCEU is going anywhere. It can't just be great visuals with no connective tissue.

I still really like 300 and watchmen. Hell 300 is still referenced pretty frequently in pop culture with 'THIS IS SPARTA'
To each their own I suppose

But elongating a crap story doesn't automatically make it better. That's Snyder-think (30 more min. of footage and an R rating to give us an automatically better film? No.) I'll agree it makes MoS look better as BvS is even worse, but that's about it. The themes barely carried through (or were given enough screen time to carry through) and Superman still hasn't grown very much, he's an uninteresting character with a really solid actor in place. That stinks.

Yeah I just went for my second serving at 945pm last night.
Something must be wrong with me. I thought it was one of the best superhero movies of all time.
A conflicted and depressed Kal-El. Look at what he has been through. I saw the courtroom scene coming a mile away (lead briefcase btw). He is emotionally tethered to Lois, because almost everything else has been lost. Almost lost his Mom. You can see Christopher Nolan's fingerprints all over these developments in his life.
I have more to add, just so much to process. I honestly don't care what plot holes you guys think were glaring, all in due time. But I can guess how to fill them in if you ask.
