Saw it tonight. Maybe a 4/10 for me.

What sucks the most about it for me is there are moments in the movie that you can get on board and if they stuck with it, it would be a great set up for the DCCU. The few jokes that were in it were nice.

The Batman v Supes angle felt pretty organic at first, but they didn't do near enough to justify the physical fight. These are supposed to be the two stalwarts of the cinematic universe and they get their start by being pissy little schoolgirls that don't even begin to wonder if the feelings they're harboring are wrong?

"Martha" is going to be one of the worst moments in comic book movie history. Nothing else to say about that

And from there to the end of the film there's supposed to be like some deep connection between the two of them? Bull.

Wonder Woman and any Justice League references are really out of sync with this movie. Luthor was more annoying than intimidating. Doomsday was terrible. The destruction porn ending fight was laughable.

There's no explanation for how Lex Luthor knows everyone's secret identities (pulled a reverse dossier on the king of dossiers) and it's absolutely unbelievable that Luthor so easily rigged a bomb in the US Capitol.

...

Affleck was good as Batman, although the character was wrong, especially for this movie. They've started their top character in a bit of a hole.

Cavill could be a good Superman, but Snyder doesn't get the character right. I was especially disturbed at the reaction to the Senate bombing.

Gal Gadot will be a good Wonder Woman. Hopefully DC gets a new director and rebounds

Just got out, that was pretty fricking bad

and I am not a comic book guy. The last time I purchased or read a comic was the late 80's. I still thouroughly enjoy the movies, feature length cartoons and all the animated series. I do have some framework of how things Marvel and DC are supposed to be, but have no predisposition as to how loyal the movies are to the source material, I just want to be entertained.

and I really wasnt entertained very much

You cant understate how bad this first part was edited together. We've all seen stories flip between present/past or present/future utilizing good film editing techniques that made it easy to follow and not get lost. They failed miserably at this, trying to simultaneously flip congruent storylines back and forth between two protagonists. It was so disjointed and clunky, I felt like a tennis ball trapped in a dryer.

The dream sequences were so unnecessary, I think they were only there because the studio or director just wanted visual filler. And who in the frick was the half man-half red robot guy trapped in the vortex? It completely distracted me from following the next series of unconnected events.

And Luthor....geesh. I know that performance was such a detraction from the lore and source material, but even then I could've accepted this wacky criminal guy if I had one fricking clue what his motivation was. Even though the words came out his garbled mouth, I still didnt believe or truly understand what in the frick Luthor was trying to accomplish. It made no sense

Holly Hunter was......not good, once again, terrible dialogue and she did nothing to carry it through.

the whole Martha thing and the green spear was so contrived and really a manifestation of piss poor dialogue, shame on whomever wrote that. There were about 100 other ways to convey that sequence of events, and you chose the stupidest dialogue ever to get from A to B

I thought it succeeded in a few things. I really felt Bruce's sense of "power left unchecked" is a huge problem for him. That portrayed well. I also thought there were a few scenes that really did a good job of showing how "small" Superman could feel at times compared to the rest of the world.

And maybe I didnt realize this, but are Gotham and Metropolis supposed to be separated by a creek? I was unaware that the two were like DFW

Towards the end, I guess the action and fight sequences were pretty good overall...Just dont know what the frick was going on the first hour and half before we got there. Maybe this was by design, because this movie needs like 10 re-watches just to make the first 2/3rds of the movie make any sense.

This about sums it up for me.

That's what people are saying he said. I'm not sure if they are correct.

In the comics we had a convoluted extended series that included Superman in a Kryptonian regeneration matrix. They didn't do that in this film, but after they showed him as a corpse in space who regenerated from the sun, my guess is that this movie superman is just very unkillable.

It's not fair that a little broken neck killed Zod yet Superman can shrug off the destruction of his chest cavity.

It is kind of sad that there was no powerful scene where Lex seduces Batman to his side. It just sort of happened...

... frick.

I thought it was a great movie. Not sure what else a super hero movie could offer. It isn't a drama. Me and my family absolutely loved it! 5 stars from us. Watched in XD 3D.

Reading the thread, I think people get to involved with what they think the movie should have been rather than go and see the movie for what it is. That is probably why I enjoyed the movie so much. It's a movie, and it doesn't have to follow specific guidelines because it is just that, a movie. I would feel I wasted my money if I went to only find things I thought was wrong with the movie. I loved the theatrics. Couldn't have been any better.

I agree

....and I did

......and it was bad

Whether its a Rom-Com, Space Opera, Political Thriller or Super Hero movie, bad editing is bad editing. The quality of the material is moot if you cant reasonably follow the story. A sequence of events strung together doesnt necessarily equate to a story. Fundamentally, as a work of film, it's flawed at the core basis of why artists put work to film. It failed to relate a coherent story with any sort of compelling argument as to why the characters are doing what they're doing.

So maybe his desert dream is more vision than an actual dream? Darkseid gains some kind of control over superman?

eh it was by far not a great movie, but for what I got going in vs what I was expecting, the disappointments for me were minimal.

im glad I saw it, i probly wont watch it again and likely won't buy it when it hits home release.

for me, Wonder Woman and Aquaman were the high points of the film.

It was definitely a vision. Some people are speculating that they may be trying to incorporate Injustice. That Flash that came through to warn Bruce was from some kind of alternate timeline where Lois or Martha dies and Superman works for Darkseid. We will have to wait and see what if anything changed or how they will incorporate that. Zack Snyder has been incredibly mum, which means that Flash is referring to something that maybe hasn't happened yet.

How do you know the joker is still alive? I don't recall that being mentioned in the movie.

Suicide Squad is set after BvS.
quote:

Suicide Squad takes place several months after the events in Batman v Superman, and The Joker has already had many battles with Batman over the previous years. When EW asked Ben Affleck’s if his Batman would turn up in the movie, he said: “You should keep your eyes peeled for sure.”

yeah there were all of theses random events and then it was just "ok time to fight"

The martha subplot was just dumb. "Alright well I'm going to try and reason with him and then I'll kill him" He tried for what about a second to explain to him what was up ? The fight was also a let down mainly because we had pretty much seen all of it in the previews.

The "death" is also a waste of time. We all know this is the launching point for your new universe so obviously you're not killing Superman. It had 0 emotional impact, you were just sort of waiting for him to come back.

I watched again last night and I did like it a lot more. It's a very flawed film, but it does have a lot of good in there as well.

I mentioned this before, but a big issue I have with the film is I don't think Batman belongs in this world with gods and aliens. I'm sure it works great in comics and cartoons, but it's kinda weird for me on film. He looked so out of place in the fight against doomsday. I much prefer Batman in a realistic, more grounded world.
