re: Nothing happens in Empire Strikes Back until the last 20 minutes

Its mind blowing to me that you don't understand the second act of a three act structure. The first act should be the set up where you introduce the characters and plot, as well as a small victory for the heroes. The second act's only job is to set up the final act. It is where most of the drama is contained in the story, the characters find themselves at the lowest point, the story is largely aimless, and it's darker than the other 3 acts. The third act is when our characters have overcome their losses from the second act and finally go and confront the main issue. Empire of course pulls all this off perfectly and really defined everything a sequel should be.

ESB had the best music in cinematic history.

This is a very unpopular opinion but Return of Jedi > ESB
I agree
I compare Empire Strikes Back with The Hobbit. Without the Gollum scene, it's not a good movie.

Act 1: introduce characters and make us care about them
Act 2: put characters in a tall building and set it on fire.
Act3: get the characters out of the fire.

Re-use of the Death Star is a bigger knock than the Ewoks, IMO.
I love ROTJ. I'm one of the few that still rank it ahead of TFA.

It's the correct opinion too. The negative impact of the Ewoks is vastly overstated (plus lots of stuff on Endor is actually good - the bike riders are at least as good as the silly AT-ATs.
The first act is entirely pointless, the plan to break out Han by getting another 4 of them kidnapped is retarded, they should have killed Han, Luke and Leia being siblings is a dumb idea, the Empire is simply comical in this, Vader only kills one person who happens to be the antagonist, they bring back the Death Star due to lack of creativity, and it doesn't seem as if they really knew what to do with any character beside Luke, Vader and the Emperor. Yes, the Throne Room scene is incredible, but the film is highly flawed outside of it.

ESB was just a set up for ROTJ.

death of Yoda
Luke and Vader heart-to-heart on Endor
Vader's death in Luke's arms
Funeral pyre
Also, it has my single favorite line - a pissy riposte from the Emperor. Vader says something like "my son is on Endor", and the Emperor responds as if a small child had told him something obvious, interrupting his watching of the LSU game in progress: "Yes, I know that".

I think the best two were Empire and Return of the Jedi. The vader death scene was the absolute best of the trilogy. The Ewoks are so insignificant to the movie but everyone makes such a huge deal over them.

The point is to bond with the characters, learn what makes them tick, put them through hell, and make them fall to their lowest point.

Ummm, yeah! No shite Sherlock. No one claims that isn't the point. That's what should happen in the second act.

I don't hate Return of the Jedi. It's just sloppy, could have used a few more rewrites, and not pandered to children to make toys. Even as much nonsense as is contained at the plot with Jabba's Palace, it's still a well shot and fun sequence. It's just it could have used a few rewrites.

I love Rotj and vader's struggle as the emperor is killing Luke and that back and forth you know he's fighting. The moment that music plays and he picks up the emperor. My fave scene of all 3.
As I've gotten older I've tended to view all 3 as just one big movie. Not one better than another

Ok, please point out to me where Luke's plan makes any sense whatsoever? As I said, Jabba's Palace is enjoyable, but if you sit and think about it, it makes no sense and they should have done another rewrite on the sequence.

That happens when you're just a mindless twat.

If this is the SW complain thread, the fight scene between DV and OWK is so comical. I know movie style fight scenes have come a long way since 1977, but its pretty awful.

Yeah, the assault on Hoth was terrible. The AT-ATs were not the coolest thing ever at all.
Oh, and GFY, troll.
