Yes, the Throne Room scene is incredible, but the film is highly flawed outside of it.

I loved Jabba's palace before Lucas screwed it up.

Ok, please point out to me where Luke's plan makes any sense whatsoever?

Well, Jabba's Palace was heavily defended, so they needed to get Han outside.

Jabba's use of the Sarlacc as an executioner was probably well known, so Luke's plan was to get Han unfrozen, then provoke Jabba into sending them to the Sarlacc pit where they had a better chance of winning.

The big variable was Artoo being able to get away to send him his light saber, but Luke would have used a blaster as a backup.

Obviously, Luke didn't plan for the Rancor.

If this is the SW complain thread, the fight scene between DV and OWK is so comical. I know movie style fight scenes have come a long way since 1977, but its pretty awful.

Would you rather a green-screen CGI exchange that's impossible to follow, like these?

Funny how Obi Wan is just standing there like General Grievous isn't really there. Probably because he isn't.

I think I didn't mind the Ewoks near as much until I obtained the knowledge that the initial concept was for ROTJ was for there to be Wookies rather than Ewoks. That's some bullshite.

One of the reasons is because the sabers were so fragile. Alec Guiness was a pretty good fencer, and Prowse was a strong guy, so they kept breaking their swords. Lucas had to get them to calm down enough to get through the scene. The problem was corrected for ESB.

The first act is entirely pointless, the plan to break out Han by getting another 4 of them kidnapped is retarded
they moved an enemy, who held a fortified position, out in the open. Terrible idea

I don't want to get into this debate, but why couldn't Luke himself just walk right in there, offer Jabba tons of gold or something like that for Han, and if he refused, just start hacking up his men? He does that in the end anyway.

Could it have something to do with Jedi only using the Force for knowledge and defense, never to attack? Just a thought, but yes the entire sequence seems to drag out.

well if the plan A went perfectly then that would ruin the tension. No one really wants a god character. Good thing he had a plan B

And most of that has been spoiled for anyone that didn't see it back in the day. I can see where people that weren't around in the 80's don't get it's impact.

This is so very true.

It wasn't spoiled for me as a kid watching it in the early 90s, but my wife had never seen any of these films until a few weeks ago.

The films come out really meh when you already know that major plot point, which sucks for her. Knowing more than the characters when you aren't supposed to causes enjoyment problems for sure.

That's what he did.

He tried to bribe Jabba, he tried to make a personal appeal, he tried to shoot him with a blaster and finally went to Plan D once he got his lightsaber back and had room to move.

Let us not forget the way ROTJ handled Boba Fett. The doubling down on stupid with that occurred in the prequels when we were shown that his old man was enough of a bad arse to be a match for an upper echelon Jedi.

Well, as I said, it needed a rewrite. And why bribe him with R2 and 3PO? Uncle Owen could afford those two droids. Anakin made 3PO out of spare parts. I don't see why they in and of themselves would be valuable to a crime lord like Jabba. Plus why give up R2 and 3PO? They've both come in handy for them in the past.

He was in control of his emotions as a Jedi should be. Fear is the way to the dark side

you just complained about wanting luke to use something as a way in, then kill everyone and now you are complaining bc you think Luke would let Jabba keep them? Is this serious?

I hate this line. I saw all three in theaters, and Jedi was more well liked than Empire. Internet message board homos preferring Empire is a phenomenon of the last decade or so.

I think it has a lot to do with animosity toward Lucas after the release of the shitty prequels. Vitriol toward him is always included in their gay little screeds.

Maybe my favorite of all time.

Not by himself.

Why does Luke go to the cloud city at all. He doesn't save Han and the others didn't need him to escape.

See how that works?
