What I fricking loved about this episode is the insane grey area it operated within. The usurper king showing initial kindness to the sheep herder, the blacks intentionally or not, having a child beheaded. Absolutely peak GRRM, a heart in conflict with itself.

What the Queen needs is a good war time consigliere.

Dameon is not a war time consigliere

I think Cregan Stark will fill that role.

IDK how true it is, but I saw on twitter that he won't be a regular character this season. The Winterfell/North stuff was just a little fan service to start off the season.

Though, seems like a lot of work building those sets for just a few minutes of screen time.

I would be very surprised if that's true. The North and the Vale are the Blacks main allies. I would think that they have to be part of the story.

Why does this show feel more like a soap opera and the acting sometimes portrays that? It looks and feels ... way different

I saw they were able to use a lot of things from GOT.

But what was cool about the detail is for HOD it has a newer look and GOT the look is more aged.

Right, but that doesn't necessarily come this season.

Pretty boring first episode. Are we to believe that two assassins just strolled leisurely through the King's castle without being challenged by anyone?

Cheese was a rat catcher in a castle with a notorious rat problem. Since most rats come out at night, he would be a common sight. It was only an issue when they got to the tower because it has its own rat catchers, but they mostly used the tunnels to escape detection.

The greens thought they were safe in King's landing because they had Vaeghar. I don't find it all that far fetched that 2 guys acting like castle employees were able to walk through the castle. At my work we have people that water the plants. Literally anyone with a watering can could come in and get full access to our office. I get that my company isn't at war but the idea that people can't fake their way into access is worng.

Yea pretty weak episode for Daemon. He came off as weak, stupid, impulsive, and easily ignored. I know he's always been impulsive but none of his ideas this episode were good ones

They haven't gotten it into their heads they are in a real war. The King is not inclined to listen to his Hand and thinks they can just blow up the enemy with dragons.

Daemon's idea of assassination was kind of smart, sort of like the Doolittle Raid, told them uh oh, the enemy is coming for you

During a rewatch for season 1 I gotta wonder if Otto and the Grand Maester had been fricking around with Viserys' sons. Aemma conveniently has a miscarriage every time except when shes pregnant with a girl until she eventually dies in child birth. The one son who is born alive happens to die shortly after birth and we aren't told why/how. But Viserys suddenly has multiple healthy sons with Alicient.

This is the real issue. Both sides were afraid to make the first move. now that both sides have lost a loved one, the gloves should come completely off.

Totally agree. It wasn’t just an attack, it was in the still of the night in their home. Shows them, hey, we can get you when you least expect it.

Interesting theory. Its possible but Its also possible that Aemma wasn't good breeding stock. Its not like she had a ton of daughters, just the one.

Yup. Vito would be proud. Instead of a horse's head we got a kid's head.

I thought it was a little non sensical too, mainly because they went in the queens room without any notice other than a servant girl who took off running and I guess didn't tell anyone.

I get them being able to go throughout the castle because they are rat catchers in a castle with a rat problem. But it's some serious plot armor to just stroll in the king and queens children's bedroom and there not be a single guard anywhere near.
