I hope we are getting a Black Sails treatment of the story and not a children’s movie, given Ridley is directing.
Should have used the Black Sails characters and continued on.

get what you’re saying but isn’t Treasure Island really a coming of age story/children’s adventure novel? If you’re going to do a gritty, violent pirate story why not just do a LJS prequel instead of trying to make Treasure Island something it’s not? Do it in the same vein as PotC/ first three Indiana Jones movies and I think everyone is satisfied. Just a fun, action packed, adventure film with a charismatic and talented leading actor.
This. We don’t need a dark treasure island.

The reason you might conclude the Black Sails story with a movie with the authentic Black Sails tone and characters and call it "Treasure Island" is pure marketing. The people financing the film would be far more comfortable using a well-known IP to guarantee the attention and comparisons. Even the endless complaining on social media would help promote the movie.
"I took my kids to this movie expecting Treasure Island. What I got instead was violence and smut! I'm outraged!"

It’s a kids story.
I’d aim for more PotC tone

I trust Scott to make a damn good movie
He's made roughly 7 of those in 50 years, so who knows.

Hugh Jackman
Given how many adaptations have been made from both stories, has anyone else portrayed both Capatain Hook and Long John Silver?
Actually, was Jackman's character Captain Hook in Pan?

While I think there’s room for balance, if you completely chuck the hero’s journey aspect of the story for the boy, then it isn't Treasure Island anymore. There are some dark themes in the book, but “dark” relative to a boy entering manhood, not Black Sails dark.
TI was one of my favorite books, so don’t f*** this up, Ridley and Hugh.

He was Blackbeard. In that version it was a retelling as like a prequel and Hook and Pan were friends.
I just checked Jason Isaac’s filmography to see if he possibly played LJS in something before like an old BBC made for TV movie or lent his voice to the character on a cartoon or something but can’t find anything.

I can see this being legit. Hugh Jackman as Long John Silver is a good match. Tom Holland as Jim Hawkins is a pretty good match too.

Kind of have Tom Holland fatigue but he would actually be perfect for the Jim Hawkins protagonist character
Wasn’t Jim Hawkins like a 12 yo boy? Maybe I’m wrong.
