Jaws,

I would never ever consider Jaws a "popcorn" flick. If you took that movie and placed it in today's world with some adjustments to modern time, it would flop and flop hard.

I enjoyed the movie (even laughing at the horrible mannequin they used for Alfred Molina's corpse), but it's not like this movie didn't have stretches and improbabilities outside of the general impossible nature of the story.

The Lord of the Rings

Enjoyed the series, but it's not like these were written from scratch. They dragged on the ending of KOTR way too fricking long. I kept getting up out of my seat because I thought the movie was over so I wound up just parking my arse until the lights came on after the credits just to make sure it was over.

I agree with that. But that's what I expected going into it though...same shite as the first one, just more over the top. Sure, parts of it were annoying, but I enjoyed it and it met my expectations of what entertains me for that kind of movie.

I honestly expected another good popcorn flick. I don't feel like I got that. Im different in that I didn't expect it to be more over the top. I don't know why I would have. But I am harder to please as a movie fan than most people, nothing wrong with me disliking it and you liking it. I just feel pretty strongly that thus was an awful movie. Even what Cough or Baloo (I forget which one said it) usually bring up, the movie gives you a headache just watching it. The fight scenes are so in you face it's hard to even know what's going on most of the time.

Its mostly the horrible characters for me. And the ridiculous basis of the movie; and there are enough bad arse Decepticons out there so why invent one?

I dunno how good of a movie it is, but sitting up with my newborn at 2 AM it gets two thumbs up in helping keep me awake.

I for one am super excited about Transformers 3. I like the silly comedic parts and the bad arse alien robots. I am also excited about fast5 and cowboys vs aliens. If you are stoked on this too then rock on. No shame.

Does that have anything to do with it?

interest in movies all revolves around a great plot, so why waste his time seeing or bitching about how dumb these movies are? You obviously knew going in by the plot and guy behind the movie what you were going to get. It's like going to see a soccer match and leaving pissed off because there wasn't much scoring.

That basically sums up my entire argument for the Transformers series. You know what it is before you even walk into the theater. So why bitch about it once you walk out..? If you went in expecting solid acting, a deep plot, creative thinking, etc...then you were an idiot from the start. Basically, if you expected anything other than cool graphics and lots of shite blowing up..

Human or robotic? The human characters were fine to me other than that Rodriguez kid. The robots are robots man. I personally LMAOed about the ghetto robots. Offensive/stereotypical or not, they worked for me.

What exactly did you have in mind for a movie about giant alien robots based on a toy line/animated japanese show?

For some reason I had King of the Ring on my mind and my fingers went with that rather than ROTK.

I will only see it at the theater if my GF wants to see it - otherwise ill wait for it. too many other decent looking films coming out this year.

regardless this looks like an action film lovers paradise.

as for TF3 - its a typical Michael Bay film. give the lead actor 4 or 5 lines - usually consisting of screaming a name, cast an actress lead that just has to look good and offer nothing to the film as a whole - and blow shite up.

And the thread has come full circle.

Whether or not anyone wants to see this movie, my point was that the action still looks indiscernible and headache inducing. And as someone else mentioned, one of the things I liked about the first one was that you knew all of the robot characters. During some scenes in the 2nd movie, I had no idea who was the good guy or bad guy during the fight scenes.

Jetfire, the leg humper, the femme bot, the ghetto-bots, the stoned mom, the pointless roommate, the annoying sector 7 dude, I could probably go on.

the ridiculous basis of the movie
It doesn't matter what I had in mind. I thought the whole premise of some matrix of leadership that was sealed in a tomb or something instead of just KILLIING THE BAD GUY was absurd.

quote:

why invent one
The main Decepticon was invented just for the movie and was not an original Decepticon from the 80's.

This is a serious question - if you are in the market for something so frivolous to begin with, do you even need the pretense of narrative? Would you be equally happy just watching random action scenes employing the latest technology?
