The trailer is not above criticism.

I actually liked everything about the trailer except for SS not being Norrin Radd. If that reason is because this is some alt universe thing and he'll be introduced later then fantastic (pun intended)

she is just an add in character to introduce Galactus - and the fact she is an established character int he MCU proper, and has been his Herald in the IP - i guess I cannot understand the outrage.

This is Norrin Radd's origin story.

I actually think most of this looks just ok. Nothing mind blowing. I’m actually pretty underwhelmed by Pascal so far. It’s just a trailer but it seems like everyone on the cast is outshining him.

Surfer CGI looks the same as it was in 07

The trailer is good. Really good.

Garner has the emotionless tone down and the CGI for the entire trailer looks... fantastic. ( ) That said, it's still not a good look for Marvel/Disney to be bringing in Shalla Bal as the Silver Surfer. Especially right now where sentiment is turning away from "girl boss". I pray they aren't setting up her origin to be that Galactus #MeToo'd her mind or some such.

Sue seems to be given a more central leadership role, that doesn't work unless it's part of an already going story of Reed being a reluctant leader or a leader in crisis (which could work and may be what some of those scenes with Pedro indicate). Sue also needs to be hotter (yeah, I said it and I stand by it as Sue is generally considered one of the top most beautiful women in the Marvel Universe, not just meh).

Johnny and Ben work well, Ben's voice needs to be ragged though, like Chiklis did for the first 2 FF movies.

I liked the shadow reveal of Galactus, but something about that footstep came across as a bit cartoonish or slapstick instead of the dramatic scene I would expect.

I absolutely love that 50s-60s period they are doing, at least what we've seen of it thus far.

You mean it doesn't make sense for a world devourer to walk down the street instead of just crashing through everything? Imagine that.

Misery is a pretty good way to describe the MCU since Endgame. No doubt about that.

I have a few questions since I am not a Fantastic Four fan in any way.

Is the Rock guy supposed to be smart and articulate ? I expected him to be brainless like the hulk.

Isn't the Human Torch supposed to be a huge jerk?

Is Richards and Sue supposed to be this old? I always assumed they were going to be much younger.

Eh he's cocky as hell and can be a bit of a frat boy at times but he's the first of the family to lay his life down for them. Evans did a good job of representing his cocky side but he's definitely way more than a one note character who only wants to get laid.

That being said he absolutely gets himself into trouble by trying to get laid a lot

He's a pilot who retains the intelligence that he had before he became The Thing.

Just with his close friends (The Thing, Spider-Man, people like that). Otherwise he's a young man looking for fun.

Should be in their 20's (her) and 30's (him) at the start of their superhero career.

Do we know how far into their superhero career we are at the start of this one? It certainly doesn't appear to be the beginning, unless we will be jumping around

They look the same in the original space flight shots as they do in the rest of the images. I'm guessing this is primarily them at their start.

Making this a period piece was fricking brilliant. Trying to establish the FF in the modern day post-Tony Stark MCU would’ve been dead on arrival imo. Taking a page out of MCU Spider-Man’s intro, skipping past the origin since everyone already knows the deal was smart as well. I would bet you they will be treated similar to Steve Rogers when they cross over to the main timeline as the “team out of time” or something similar.

It all feels very meta, introducing the FF in a world where no other superheroes exist and they are truly the first of their kind, just like they were when Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created them originally.

This is the problem.

For everyone saying "She's Shalla Bal," blah blah blah - She's not. She's Norrin Radd's story. She's the "Silver Surfer." It's a gender swap of his story.

Have to love Wikipedia:

quote:

Shalla-Bal will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), played by Julia Garner. This version will be portrayed as the Silver Surfer.

Will be portrayed as. Meaning there is a distinction between "Shalla-Bal" and "The Silver Surfer." And that this "Shalla-Bal" will be the "Silver Surfer," aka Norrin Radd. Aka a Gender swap.

The Shalla Bal story here looks to NOT be the Shalla-Bal as Silver Surfer story. At all.

Spoilers but there’s a TON of speculation that John Malkovich is playing Red Ghost, one of their early minor villains, and Paul Walter Hauser is playing Mole Man, another early villain. Perhaps we get some sort of montage showing them defeating these characters before getting to Galactus.

And there’s another rumor that this tv show thing at the beginning of the trailer is a celebration of 5 years with the Fantastic Four

Yeah. I didn't see any hippies, so with the styles and the Beatle's Ed Sullivan set, it looks like they're mirroring the comics and they launched in 1961ish and they're famous by 1964ish.

The worst instance of this was the time Johnny cucked Doctor Doom by sleeping with Doom’s bride to be the night before their wedding lmao. Doom was ready to bury the hatchet once and for all but instead wound up turning Johnny’s flames to like 200% and he can no longer turn them off so he can never touch another human

Namor cackling like a madman at Doom’s embarrassment is so good
