Warner Bros. is heading back into The Matrix, and this time Drew Goddard is leading the charge.

Goddard, the fan-favorite writer-director whose credits include The Martian, The Cabin in the Woods and World War Z, has been tapped to write and direct a new Matrix feature for the studio, Warners announced Wednesday.

This will be the first The Matrix film not to directly involve creators Lana and Lilly Wachowski, though Lana Wachowski will act as an executive producer on the new installment.

After the last abomination "Resurrections", I have zero interest in revisiting this universe.

Haven't they bled this franchise dry? The last one was terrible.

Hilarious. Hollywood is creatively bankrupt. They have no idea what people want.

Has that stopped Hollywood before?

Might have been the worst movie I've watched in my life. I'm only in for this one if they completely ignore Resurrections like it never happened.

to me, there has only been one Matrix movie. The rest aren't even worth the braincells to remember

The only way that can make anything decent is to do a prequel about the machines taking over and humanity scorching the sky/earth as a last ditch effort.

That also falls in line with Goddard's specialty in the vein of WWZ.

It would also have numerous similarities to Terminator Salvation, though... And we all saw how that turned out.

It all went downhill after the first one. If those two basketcases aren't involved then there's hope.

They were too preoccupied with getting their dicks chopped off to make a good movie

I only liked the first and last one.

This will still most likely suck.

Because they stole the idea for the first one and then showed their actual talent in the next couple of them.

The Animatrix shorts are good, but yeah. All of the other movies are garbage, though 2 and 3 are masterpieces compared to 4.

Blade Runner and the first Matrix are about as rewatchable as it gets.

It’s a shame the sequels seemed to get progressively worse for the Matrix.
