Quit being idiotic. why on earth would there be white people in the African nation of Wakanda?
Nevermind...

One of my best friends is in this movie. They spent a ton of money, he was on location for like 2.5 months shooting every day. He said it's going to be awesome.

Love the look of it. They are creating something super unique here.
Excited for it for sure.

This could be the first MCU bomb!
I wonder what other MCU characters will end up in it?

Highly doubt that. I think this movie will be huge. Marvel is killing it as it is, and this has the first black superhero angle as well.

Not gonna lie... this looks f'n awesome. They got the look right, let's see if they wrote a good movie around it.

Impossible. It will do pretty well even if turns out to be a mediocre movie. The two reasons being it's a Marvel movie and the 2nd being it's the first black centered movie in the MCU.

so you think people will say "i'm going watch Black Panther b/c he's black, even though I've never seen any other Marvel movie"?
that will comprise maybe .1% of the audience. There may be an uptick in Africa, if they have movies over there, but I seriously doubt anyone that is a fan of these movies gives a shite about it being a black lead.
The overwhelming majority of people that will watch this will be the same people that went see Dr. Strange and Ant-Man.

Do you know why Wonder Woman is doing so well? It's not because it drew the usual Marvel and DC audiences and tapped into an additional .1%. It's skewing older, and it's bringing in women that aren't in that usual DC/Marvel audience. And those new viewers, they're not just sampling it, they're seeing it more than once.
We've had black superheroes, but we've never had a black superhero universe, and that's what this movie appears to be. So start with your Marvel audience, delete the small percentage of racists who won't see a black movie of any kind, and add in an additional audience of African Americans and SJWs (who will see it more than once).
No way this movie doesn't beat out Ant-Man and Dr. Strange.

Yes I was serious about that. This movie has already received tons of praise because it's black centered. It's also the first to not have a white majority cast so I've seen plenty of minority groups praising it. I'm not saying it's going to be the most successful of Marvel's movies but it's guaranteed to do well.

yeah, b/c it's fricking Wonder Woman, and it was a good movie, and despite what some people think, comic book movies are popular and people go see them in groves. She's an icon in the superhero world, like Batman and Superman and Spider-Man. You have to make a really shitty movie to not get near or over a billion dollars today with those 4 names.

Well it's not going to amass a billion, and a seriously doubt it surpasses GOTG2, which is at $858M.
Dr. Strange is at $677M, Ant-Man at $519M.
B/c it's a Marvel movie, it will likely do somewhere in the $600-750M range.
Since the Avengers came out, there hasnt' been a comic book movie that hasn't made at least $600M except for Ant-Man. 14 movies, 10 Marvel, 4 DC, all made at least $644M.
I'm sure pretty much everyone that went see Ant-Man and Dr. Strange, has seen all 14 of those movies. What makes more people go watch a specific one is the popularity of the character, and how good the movie actually is, not if the lead is black or a woman.

That's what I was thinking also. It'll probably end somewhere around $620-650 mill at the box office and be a solid entry into the MCU.

The fact that this movie has a primarily black cast will play some part in how well it does. It won't have a massive impact but it will have at least some effect.

I've read this as well.
As for my own experience, I've now seen all but Suicide Squad in the theater with my two sons (of varying ages since Iron Man came out in 2008) and Wonder Woman was DEFINITELY different when it came to not just women but LOTS of young girls in the audience with their Dad or parents. My youngest even pointed it out with a, "Why are all these girls in here?"
So yeah...BP is going to draw a higher percentage of the black non-comic book fan audience than many of the other comic book movies have.

I trust Ryan Coogler. No way he shoots with a garbage story.

I'm not doubting it will have an effect, but it won't be big enough to get it anything more than a few million dollars more than normal.
it's a Marvel movie, a popular character, and one that we just saw in Civil War where most loved him. The floor is probably $600M, and it will likely be closer to $750M if you ask me.

This movie looks awesome. Love Black Panther. A more badass version of Batman.

If it has a really targeted second trailer closer to release and gets stellar reviews (85%+ on RT), I could see it dipping into urban/hip-hop culture a bit (read: not black, just urban), which is the Fast and Furious demographic - outside of the super-hero demographic.
The last two FF have both cracked a billion.
I'm not saying it will, but if they keep with the hip-hop style presentation, really do nail the Godfather comparison (read:Gang/Family struggles - there's a reason they've already targeted this language), and can get into that demographic, there are huge gains to be made. There's probably some cross over, but I don't think $900million is unreasonable with all of that in place. They have significant potential with Black Panther being the type of character and with the type of intended story in place.
