I’ve watched E1-E8 so far. I’ve enjoyed S3 for the most part, and David Dawson was phenomenal as Alfred. I do agree about the villains though. The Vikings seemed very dumb this season, especially with the control they gave Skade. I liked Siegfried and Erik a lot more from S2.
Is next season going to deal with Haesten and Cnut more?? They’re somewhat one-dimensional.

Just finished S3.
The scene with Alfred and Uhtred in E9 was probably my favorite scene of all 3 seasons. Flawless acting. I’m going to miss David Dawson. And the scene with Uhtred talking about Alfred had me tear up.
And frick Aelswith. She’s like a pious version of Cersei.

I find myself really enjoying the show once we get past the “uhtred does something stupid and Alfred turns his back on him for it” beginning of each season. At this point, im just thinking come the frick on, this is dumb.
I actually felt the acting and writing was better in this season than the previous two. It felt clunkier in the earlier seasons. I found myself more emotionally invested in this season, I think mostly due to the obvious relationship between Alfred and Uhtred actually playing out realistically past the idiocy in the beginning. It was nice of Alfred to admit to Uhtred that he took his children out of spite and that he had hoped he would have the conversation with Uhtred before passing through. I agree with other statements. Probably the greatest moment in the show’s history to date was that conversation.
I’m hoping, with the cancellation of Marco Polo, the subsequent savings, and The Last Kingdom seemingly knowing how to create a show without needing to spend copious amounts of money, that Netflix keeps renewing this one.
Aelswith is probably the single biggest piece of shite woman character in any show I’ve seen in recent memory. I understand the motivations for Cersei etc. Aelswith is just fricking childish at the expense of everyone she supposedly cares about. Her son would be dead without Uhtred. Her daughter would be dead twice without Uhtred. Hell, she’d probably be dead without Uhtred. After all that, she’s still lashing out at him at the expense of the son’s claim to the throne? frick off... she’s so despicable it can take me out of the show it doesn’t even feel natural. A woman that cares only about being a gigantic bitch would not have the love and support of those around her.
I still enjoyed the show and season a good bit and felt immense satisfaction at the ending. Aethelwold was a great antagonist. I also enjoy the dynamic between Brida and Uhtred quite a bit. That was nice to see them together alone in quite some time. They also had great dialogue.

Quick question? Why did Brieda bury Ragnar? Vikings don’t bury their dead
Also, why the frick would she be allowed to bury him alone and not have a huge funeral at Dunholm?

I’m assuming the answer is they were on the march and Brieda knew something was wrong and maybe that she would need Uhtred. There had to be a beacon for Uhtred to go.

While watching, I assumed it was because Ragnar did not go to Valhalla - he couldn't be burned in a funeral pyre to give them the chance to fix that.
After googling - I see that burial became common for the Vikings after exposure to the Saxons and Christianity. Would still think a pagan like Ragnar would be cremated though.

Yes it should cover them along with BOOK SPOILERS!!!!
Athelred's death and Eardwulf's attempt to seize Mercia. And of course we will get a good look at Bebbanburg for the first time since Uthred was 12.

Just finished season 3.
Loved it. Final battle could have used some more time to unfold and a bit of a wider lens camera at times to show the true extent of it, but all in all this show is awesome and I'm sad to have no episodes left to watch.
For the book readers, Uhtred and Finan look nothing like Imagined them from reading...but I love the casting of both parts.
Uhtred shows a tender side much earlier in the show than he does in the books, but they do get right that honor and oaths mean everything to him. In the show, Uhtred actually says he 'loved' Kind Alfred, which I'm almost certain was never said in the books, though he respected him greatly.
Finan might be my favorite character in any show going at the moment. His one liners, in that Irish accent, are on point.
Anyone else dissapointed we didn't get to see the assault of Baemfleot's walls with beehives?
