frick Netflix. Everything they touch ends up going to shite. They’re as bad as disney when it comes to corporatizing the film industry.

It’s hard to think of a scenario worse than Disney owning Fox, Amazon owning MGM, and Netflix owning Warner Bros.

But it’s not a Monopoly. What’s the difference between Paramount owning Warner Bros. vis Netflix?

This acquisition brings together two pioneering entertainment businesses, combining Netflix’s innovation, global reach and best-in-class streaming service with Warner Bros.’ century-long legacy of world-class storytelling. Beloved franchises, shows and movies such as The Big Bang Theory, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, The Wizard of Oz and the DC Universe will join Netflix’s extensive portfolio including Wednesday, Money Heist, Bridgerton, Adolescence and Extraction, creating an extraordinary entertainment offering for audiences worldwide.

“Our mission has always been to entertain the world,” said Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix. “By combining Warner Bros.’ incredible library of shows and movies—from timeless classics like Casablanca and Citizen Kane to modern favorites like Harry Potter and Friends—with our culture-defining titles like Stranger Things, KPop Demon Hunters and Squid Game, we'll be able to do that even better. Together, we can give audiences more of what they love and help define the next century of storytelling.”

“This acquisition will improve our offering and accelerate our business for decades to come,” continued Greg Peters, co-CEO of Netflix. “Warner Bros. has helped define entertainment for more than a century and continues to do so with phenomenal creative executives and production capabilities. With our global reach and proven business model, we can introduce a broader audience to the worlds they create—giving our members more options, attracting more fans to our best-in-class streaming service, strengthening the entire entertainment industry and creating more value for shareholders.”

Wow.

I wonder where this will all go. Soooooo many possibilities- both good and really, really bad.

I have zero idea what will happen. Will they go theatrical more? Will most everything move to streaming? Will they keep things separate - for now?

Plus, quality. I stopped my Netflix last year due to just poor quality shows - haven’t missed it either.

Ugh, wonder what will happen with the free HBO I have with ATT? I’m done with paying for a million streaming services.

I guess we’re not gonna be lucky enough that they’ll leave HBOMax alone and let it run as its own standalone service. I don’t want to have to dig through Netflix to find HBO/WB content and franchise hubs.

More trimming of the fat and content cutting is on the way too I’m sure.

+1 it's the beginning of the end for theatrical

Saw a long detailed tweet basically expressing this exact sentiment.

If you're a big time movie studio company now is the time to cash out. Your value is not going to go up in the coming years.

The big budget movie industry is never coming back to the zenith of entertainment it once occupied.

It's not going away or anything but the future looks like a continue gradual decline.

Netflix will certainly get rid of any free stuff. I can't even imagine the price they'll charge for their combo service with HBO.

With this, Disney owning 100% of Hulu, and Amazon having a Paramount+ add on feature we’re about one more merger away from having all these streaming services under one umbrella.

All these channels, movies, and shows bundled up in one place. What a time to be alive! Wonder what we should call such a thing?

$83 billion. Wow. That is an INSANE amount of money, even for Netflix.

I don't want HBO owned by Netflix. Their algorithm bullshite shows are horrible. I used to like a few shows and the movies aren't that bad sometimes. There's this assembly line like feel to much of their content.

That is such a perfect way of describing a lot of NF content. I could never put my finger on just what it was about a lot of their stuff. It's not that it's bad, per se. It's just also not overly good outside of a few things here and there. But you nailed it...a lot of it feels "assembly line"-ish, where they are just pumping shite out based on some formulaic methods just to churn and generate "content." The problem is, most people want to truly be entertained by films and shows, and not "content."

Or should I say most people over 30 do. So then again, maybe the NF model of content is perfectly tailored to their business plans for future viewers. Who the frick knows. All I know is that generally speaking, monopolies are usually very bad for the customers.

If it’s of any consequence, the director cut took it from a 1/10 to a 4/10.
