Man what a finale. I already miss it. I remember I started watching the show on a generator-powered tv in the habitable half of our house after Hurricane Rita. I was in seventh grade then, and just finished my second year of college
Of course there were some forgettable rough patches in the show where I didn't even watch at all, but dammit if I don't already miss it. And yes I teared up on several occasions throughout those two hours.
My only complaint about the finale is the exact opposite complaint about the entire series: it wasn't long enough.

It's still weird thinking about the show being done.
Like, it's going to take a while to come to terms with it.
The finale is definitely sticking with me.
To have it end the way it did after this long journey of genuinely caring about the characters and having such great resolution to the story, makes it that more satisfying.
And you're also happy because these people were such close friends in real life and loved coming to work with each other everyday, and it reflects while their saying their goodbyes.

I didn't really get emotional as some of you did but I can see why you would. It was a good finale.
One of my favorite parts was the perfect wrap-up for Kelli and Ryan. That's exactly what those two shallow idiots would do. Perfect.
I could've gone without the Michael appearance. It was fine but it felt kind of awkward to me. He had a two Michael Scott lines but zero Michael Scott energy. Probably should've just left him out imo.

I totally get that and I know they were walking a thin line. Even a little "Michael Scott" could easily take over. That being said, I'm just one of those that think they should've left it with his original send off.
Maybe a quick Michael/Holly/kids Skype video to Dwight or something would've been ok.
I'm just not buying that Michael Scott reunited with all of them after 2 years and was so reserved.

They didn't really wrap up Toby did they, or did I miss something?

I think him being invited to the after party and showing he had some friends was his wrap

Now that i'm at a keyboard instead of on an ipad, i wanna write some of my thoughts on the episode that i havent seen posted in this thread yet.
i'll mostly focus on the goodbye portion (the last 15 min) as this is what made this a series finale rather than a season finale.
1. I quite liked how they only gave the goodbyes to the main characters. sure we all love some of the secondary characters, but when you have watch the same people for 9 seasons, they become the ones we connect with more than the 2-3 seasons we got of Plop, Clark, Karen, Packer, etc.
2. One has to applaud the writers on the Pam character this season. She became the perfect antagonist (on purpose as we learn in the finale) and the writers did a great job making her selfish in a subtle way to herself but blatantly obvious to the camera crew and shown on the documentary. It takes her watching the documentary and seeing herself from an outside perspective to notice how selfish she has been. Well done writers
3. I really liked how we learn the relationships we watched over the past 9 years were really more than just workplace friendships. Stanley, who never really seemed to show much emotion, actually cared about Phyllis as evident by the wood carving he gave her. Dwight was always a schtickler for the rules, he never seemed to break them, but when he could tell that Jim (his best man) and Pam (his best friend) were going to quit, he fired them first to let them have severance packages. Something that we would never have expected from early season Dwight. (that gave me goosebumps even writing it, btw
)
The one thing i dodn't like was the insertion of Greg Daniels in the cast photo and the forced line by Pam after that happened. It seemed to take away from the moment a little bit. Have some class man and stick to the dvd exteras like a good behind-the-scenes man should.
I will miss this show. i have watched it every thursday night (with some exception) for the better part of a decade. I'm glad they went with a happy final scene rather than a tearjerker. Afterall, they are just ordinary people.

Did anyone else notice that it was Dave Chappelle that replaced Stanley?

I really liked the way they wrote Pam too. Sure she seemed selfish but it was real human nature. She was just trying to protect what she was comfortable with and she finally overcame her fear and decided to go for it.
I know viewers didn't like it but how many of us wold do the same thing?
It just made her more "real"

Stop it. You don't really think that.

I also liked how they ended the Nellie story. Although i never like the ryan/kelly twists like they did, but i am glad that their schenenigans got nellie her baby.
They did a good job turning her around from the awful character she was when she first appeared on the show.

I didn't get emotional with this like y'all did. I actually enjoyed the hour look back show leading up to the finale more than the actual finale. They did a good job of wrapping up the story lines even if they shoehorned a few of them (Jim and Pam) but there weren't many laughs to be had here. The TWSS was probably the best line of the finale.
All in all, great series, will miss it but glad it is finally over.
