Sepinwall noticed the Cheers connection as well, particularly in the final sequence:

Mike Schur (who strapped on the itchy neckbeard one last time) often talks about the genius of the "Cheers" series finale, and in particular of the long bull session in the bar that concludes it. Though the closing minutes of "The Office" weren't exactly the same, due to the difference in format and style, I imagine that episode had a great impact on Daniels, as well, as we simply got to watch the characters hang out, share memories, say their goodbyes (and, in Dwight's case, offer a very generous severance package to his two favorite subordinates), etc.

I really like Dwight. Raiin Wilson did a good job, you could hate him, love him, be annoyed with him or intrigued. He had a lot of range. You sometimes think him and Jim don't like each other, but the last season really showed their respect for each other.

I was a junior or senior in high school.
Today (literally today) I graduated from grad school. This show got me through half of high school, all of college, and all of grad school... It was my Thursday night religion. For 30-60 minutes every Thursday I would stop everything and watch this show. Even in the most difficult times of school I made time for the office and I do not regret it.
Thank you guys... This was a fun journey.

Really good review.
I wonder if turning off the lights to the office would have been too much of a rip off of Cheers, but I did like Pam taking the picture with her. I think it will always be with us too Pam.

All of this. Even though there are some current shows out there I love, I can't really think of any I'll be this sad to see go.

One of my favorite parts of the finale was so insignificant yet hilarious. As wedding is taking place they show all the couples smiling at each other and Mose gives a smile to the scarecrow dressed as a woman

Really never thought a comedy would make me tear up but this was the first series I ever watched that wasn't like fresh prince etc when I was young and it's my favorite ever.
So amazing and can't believe how sad I am to see it go

Networks(NBC) can't even learn from their own successes. Instead we get year after year of the same old recycled actors starring in the same cop and/or hospital shows
To NBC's credit, Parks and Rec is a great show that is clearly influenced by the Office. And Community is fantastic and NBC is giving it plenty chances despite low ratings.

No I died laughing at that, but I think anything Mose does is always awesome

I'm down to the last 10 minutes and have honestly been a little bored. I don't have the same emotional connection with this show most people posting in this thread do though

Really liked how they wrapped up storylines I didn't even think about, like Nellie wanting a child.
No stone unturned. God, I'm going to miss this show. One of those that I'll watch my DVDs of consistently or tune in when it comes on TBS.

Yep, I'll watch reruns of the office forever but I won't be able to watch the finale again. At least not for a long time.

First off, the ending was fantastic and as much as I loved Michael and was pumped to see his return, I am glad he had only a brief moment. I wish holly would have been with him.
Like most of you I started watching this back in high school and cannot believe how attached I am. I got my girlfriend into it before this season and have no seen the whole series twice. It's by far my favorite show of all time and oh boy will I miss it. There has been an obvious lag throughout the seasons but I've always stuck with it. The last 3 episodes of this season can be rated as some of the best in the series. The whole cast, writers, production crew etc did a fantastic job wrapping this thing up and
to them. The only other finale that has given me this type of feeling is six feet under, but as a show, I don't miss it like I will the office.
Most importantly though, the character development with this show may never again be matched in my lifetime. The characters were extremely dynamic and could make you laugh your butt off or strike emotion in even the biggest man.
The story of Jim and Pam is the greatest love story television will ever know. I'm so glad they ended it the way they did.
Dwight was fantastic this season. He and Jim's development over the years from prankster enemies to best man and favorite subordinate are priceless. I just couldn't be happier to have grown up with this show.

Michaels appearance was perfect. Not to much but gave two lines that were perfect michael Scott. Absolutely perfect

Just finished it. Fantastic.
Michael's part, though small, was perfect. We got a TWSS and a "your kids grow up and marry each other... Every parent's dream."
Also a throwaway line about him finally having kids, and the thing about two phones with two bills so he can have pics of his kids fits MS perfectly.
Glad Pam came around. We all figured she would, but it was still cool. And a nice touch of her basically talking to us and acknowledging that she has sucked over the year sometimes and we should learn from it. Good stuff.
Agreed that the wedding was nice and I'm glad it wasn't over the top dumb Schrute bullshite.
Was glad most of the characters got to get their two cents in, but I would've liked to see all of them...Clark didn't have a single line. And I was wanting more secondary characters (no Gabe, David Wallace, Holly, Bob Vance, etc.), but it was still cool.
I was surprised I never really got sad or teary eyed, though I almost did with Erin and her mom though (I was damn near bawling for Michael's last episode). It was more that I was happy to be a part of the show and content with it being over. All in all it was a really great finale.
And for those who haven't been watching the show the last couple of seasons, especially ones who wear that like a badge of coolness, you've been really missing out on some good television. Of course it's not as good as it used to be, but very few shows are. But it's still been very solid and this season has been great actually, especially the second half of the season. I haven't been attached to many shows like I have been to this one. In a weird way I am both happy and sad to see it go. It will definitely be missed by me more than most other shows I've ever watched.

The episode where Michael left had me wanting to tear up. If crying was my thing I would've been bawling then. The scene where he and Jim were in his office together that last time...wow.

This is, simply, how a finally should be done.

As a member of the crew for the last 7 years I can proudly say, "Well done!"
