I might be in the minority, but I feel like they really fricked up casting that actor as el chapo. To me he just sort of comes across as a goofy caricature, and considering that his role is obviously set to expand given what we know, it just seems like a misstep from the people behind the show. they’ve made some solid casting decisions throughout, but this one feels off to me. Diego Luna & Scoot McNairy are great. I also really like the guy that plays Amado, but my surprise favorite character from the season was Pablo Acosta, and the actor that played him.
Acosta was awesome. So is Don Juan. Somewhat agree about Chapo, but I think they've made it a point that he was always looked down on as a runt. If they have another season I think we'll see his character get tired of the disrespect and become the monster we all know him to be today.

Acosta's story has always been fascinating. His relationship with John Tower's niece Mimi Webb Miller is a story in of itself. One doesn't have to exactly tax the mind figuring out how high the corruption went (and goes) on this side of the border.

Don Juan and the Gulf Cartel have a fascinating story too. The content is basically endless for this series if they want to keep it going.
Acosta and Don Juan were basically God along their stretches of the border during those days

I finsihed it last night. loved the scene with Felix and Walt in the jail. Very well done. I'm excited to see all the cartel beefs start to blow up.

I finished it last night. I did not really like Walt as much as I have liked other lead characters from all the Narcos series. I also thought that a few characters had random story lines. But with that said, I loved Acosta. And cant wait to see the rise of Chapo!

Why did they need to place bugs on the planes? Can the CIA/DEA not track transponders? Tough to hide a 727

I think the craziest thing here is that Gallardo is still alive in prison....I wonder if he has real protection or if the plazas (cartels now) still respected him enough to let him be as long as he kept his mouth shut (which he has done an incredible job of even in his "memoirs").
In real life he still controlled the Federation for years while in prison. He’s the one that decided to break them up. So obviously they respected him a lot.

I'm honestly a little disappointed they diverted from that. It would've been interesting seeing him trying to maintain that from prison.

Obviously these shows aren’t very accurate but Narcos Mexico is even more so different compared to real life.
Even the scene with Palma’s family was different. They beheaded the wife, taped that and the kids being thrown off the bridge, and sent the head and tape to Palma. Ramon was thought to be involved which really intensified the hatred between the Tijuana and Sinola Cartels. I don’t think it was even certain that Felix was involved at all.
Last season, I wished they had showed Kiki’s deep undercover involvement with the cartel. He actually got to know many of the higher ups.

I’m currently doing a re-watch of Mexico season 1 which is even more amazing the second time around after watching season 2. A lot of small things I didn’t pick up on the first go which makes a lot more sense now. Felix’s first encounter with Pablo was incredible and chilling. “ The hippos don’t like Mexicans either.”

The Mexican carrels basically run the whole cocaine industry now. Colombian carrels are small potatoes.
Cocaine is now a much smaller piece of the pie. Most of the cartels started out as smugglers. Marijuana and opium became their big money makers. Then they started evolving into cartels when they expanded from simply smuggling the drugs. They took control of growing marijuana and poppies, manufacturing heroin, and establishing distribution networks in the US.
The amount of cocaine and money flowing through Mexico in the 80’s completely changed their business model. They were back to being smugglers, but on a much larger scale. They were now Millionaires and Billionaires.
They still make a lot of money handling Columbian cocaine. They don’t grow the cocoa plants or produce cocaine. It still comes from Colombia, through Mexico, to the US.
But they are also back to manufacturing and producing their own product. Methamphetamines and opioids are now a big money maker. The Mexican cartels now have relationships with Chinese syndicates to import chemicals to manufacture these drugs.
Meanwhile Colombia currently consists of a loose confederation of smaller exporters of cocaine. Gone are the large powerful cartels. The Mexican cartels now have the money, leverage, power, and distribution networks.

Quavo showing up in episode 2, basically playing a poorly acted version of his own persona, and making a gratuitous Migos reference
Watched some episodes over the past couple of days and came here to say that all the Quavo shite was dumb.

I just rewatched S1 Ep1 and there was so much shite I didn't pay attention to. I'm definitely going to re-watch the season now.

Pablo Acosta, and the actor that played him.
Gerardo Taracena bares a striking resemblance to Pablo.
If you're interested in more of Pablo's story, read Drug Lord by Terrence Poppa.
Many of the people in this book I grew up around, the man kidnapped and rescued by the Texas Rangers-spent many summers at his house in the Big Bend area.

I hope they let it draw out first.
Let the next season be about the brewing cartel wars as we watch Chapo ascend in the midst of the chaos. The end of S3 should be the day Chapo is crowned as Patron
