These lists immediately tell people's taste and genre of horror.

I will post what I always post when this question comes up.

The Orphanage
Kairo
The Changeling (not the Jolie movie)

Honorable mention:
The Others
The Awakening

This has become a movie we watch every Halloween. Very well done!!

And I always watch Halloween 3 Season of the Witch. I may get down voted into oblivion but if you go in knowing it has zero to do with Michael Myers you might enjoy it

I know it’s not scary scary but I really have enjoyed the Hammer Frankenstein films. Wish I could find a Blu ray collection or 4k.

I knew This guy growing up. His name was Bob Melvin. He passed away around 1990 I believe.

I can't really top the suggestions already submitted but I just happened to do a re-watch of "Storm of the Century " last night on Hulu and its pretty decent. I know if I were Tim Daly's character the only response I would have had for any of those jackasses after the fact on that island, including the wife, would be frick you.

70s-80s horror films to me are spookier/creepier than modern horror movies that use too many special effects:

In no particular order:
The Exorcist (1973)
The Amityville Horror (1979)
The Omen (1976)
The Changeling (1980)
Salem's Lot (1979)
Poltergeist (1982)
The Shining (1980)
Children of the Corn (1984)
The Hitcher (1986) * Not really scary, but it's a pretty good movie.
The Lost Boys (1987) *
Silver Bullet (1985) *
