It may just be a deeply-rooted bias of mine, but I just can't buy into movies where major plot points hinge on the characters doing irrationally stupid things. Stupid things are fine; people can be stupid. But irrationally stupid things are infuriating to me.
I can handle a contrivance or two...whatever almost every story has them. But the supposedly "elite" scientists acting like witless dumbasses just so the plot could happen was frustrating to see from a franchise and director that I'd held in such high esteem.
It was particularly grating because of how well the "Kane quarantine" situation was handled in Alien where assumedly competent individuals behaved competent and rationally. Prometheus was the polar opposite of that dynamic. And it took me out of the story very quickly.

Drive is brilliant. Don’t remember it being polarizing but maybe so.

Are you a fan of the franchise or Alien and Aliens. I’m a big fan of Prometheus and rank it third in the franchise. I have a hard time understanding how people that dislike Prometheus could rank it below Alien 3 and Resurrection.

There's definitely a generational gap and nostalgia effect for certain things.
If you think the Sandlot was the greatest sports movie and Topanga from Boy Meets World is everyone's dream girl then I know how old you are.
If you think the Ewoks were amazing and ending the original trilogy with a teddy bear dance party was a great move by Lucas then I know how old you are.

Anybody that likes film can like Drive. I get it's not for the average popcorn movie-goer, but it's univerally liked film.
One Battle After Another on the other hand...
I liked the direction of it and thought the acting was fine, but it was kind of a dumb movie that was too ham fisted with caricatures of real people.

I can understand and appreciate what Ridley Scott was trying to do, but the execution was just...terrible.
I think Prometheus is the most awesome in scope and actually beautifully filmed, but it just really wasn't much to it with dumb decisions being made by a full team of scientists.

Growing up, ROTJ was easily my favorite Star Wars film because of just how incredible it is seeing Luke interact with Vader and the Emperor. Those scenes are so tense and emotional.
As an adult, when I watch ROTJ after the first two, it seems to be a movie of noticeably lower quality. I still love the scenes with Luke, but the b-plot on the moon of Endor just isn’t up to par with Empire or ANH, imo. I don’t even completely hate the Ewoks either, but it would be way cooler and more believable with Wookies.

I haven't been on this board for long so dont know if it was divisive here but Interstellar was pretty divisive on other boards I've frequented.

Yea, those are good ones. I love the Witch, but that style of movie I just generally like and have loved pretty much everything Eggers has done. I also 100% understand why anyone wouldn't like it however too
Hereditary I absolutely hated. Just awful to me. I'm not one that gets overly moved by shock scenes, which is mostly what that movie relied on to move the needle.
It Follows I enjoy but I also don't ever claim it is some phenomenal movie. Just a solidly done though fairly simple horror film, nothing more and nothing less.

It was an outstanding allegory for promiscuity and STDs, but not a lot of folks seemed to pick up on that or cared to recognize it, if so.
